There is no second AB. The actual code is Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, (select), Start

Oh what tangled webs we weave..... when first we try to cheat at Contra. Allright, so it just doesn't have that ring to it. Isn't there some stupid punk or emo band that has a song by that name? (The code being the name of the song, i.e: "Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start.")

I don't consider the Start to be part of the code, since that's what you push anyway.

I heard of a band called "The Konami Kode." Must have been local around here as they advertised on our school cafeteria doors and I haven't been able to find a web page.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

I think soft resets are ok, but hard resets are not. Soft reset combos are built into the game, but not into all games. It manipulates the programming. You could argue similarly for "uses death as a shortcut" and using Continue to warp back somewhere after you finished something. _______________ Edit: There was a correction for the Konami Code at the end of this post because I somehow managed to miss the other corrections... (no need for me to restate it)

Well, there are two types of 'soft resets'. The first type is that accessed with a controller key combo, such that it's programmed into the game. The second type is the reset button on the console itself. It's still a soft reset because the memory retains it's previous contents. A hard reset implies that the system loses power long enough to cause the memory to lose it's contents. If the terms are more familiar, you can also refer to it as "warm boot" instead of "soft reset" and "cold boot" instead of "hard reset".

I like "controller reset", "reset button", and "power reset"

Heh, it'd be cool if you could get emulators to transfer RAM over like that.
Some do.
