My last boss 5 was also pretty bad :(
Improved it by 2,754 frames, for the total time of 94.6 seconds on the boss. This is also the second boss to be completely unimprovable, by even a single frame, before its final hp bar.
Along with 1976 frames saved getting to the boss (almost all of which was the result of better luck manipulation), i'm now ahead of my last run by a total of 12,136 frames (3:22.26)

Another day or two, and i'll be done with the new run. Up to the final boss, i saved 6:52.8, and expect the last boss to be faster by more than a minute, so i should get below 64 minutes.
I could have saved an additional ~10 seconds, by using more smoke bombs, since i finished with 4, but this isn't worth redoing the last two acts for, since there's no guarantee that it would even be faster. I may be able to save 8 whole frames by hexing shopping to buy 4 less, but not sure if that will sync.
Well another person asked if i was going to do kisuke, so fuck it, i'm doing it. He's not as interesting to speedrun, but a number of people have expressed interest in it, so whatever. It's an easy game to tas anyway.

Second boss is interesting, which starts at 11:15. Includes a 2k+ combo.
I don't even know if i want to do this run now though. This fight will be impossible to optimize. At a guess, i'd say probably 20-30 seconds can come off of this fight time.
That dang centipede... I've fought it half a dozen times and still can't figure out exactly what the best way to fight it is. x.x Though it looks like you've got a good system going for it.
I notice that this run is done from clear SRAM (no Shigarui). Is your intent to use this run to create a verification file for the Momohime run?
First a movie gets submitted, and ends up accepted despite breaking rules other runs have been rejected for. And when I vote less than spectacularly on this movie, I become the victim of harassment and threats.
Yay, favoritism.
Well the strategy is easy enough. I just want to hit as many segments per swing as possible, and spam quick draw. Ideally, i also want them to stay together more often, and kill them all at once. I spend a lot of time at the end here only hitting one, i definitely want to avoid this. I also want to make sure i always hit at least 2-3 segments per centipede, per swing, something i put no effort into ensuring before.
Er, what? I did the verification movie for my momohime run before i even started it. It wouldn't have been published otherwise. There was a bunch of drama about starting from sram though last time, and nach said not to do it again. Also, the rules now clearly say not to if it doesn't make any real difference.
:\
I wasn't really intending to do kisuke. The only reason i'm doing it at all is because TP runs too slow to be done effectively on my computer, and wiimote recording doesn't work. This run is going to be a lot less interesting than momohime was, with shittier routes (have fun watching an hour of running right) and boring bosses. And this boss...i could probably spend a year on it, and still be able to improve it further. It's really a terrible, terrible boss to tas. I don't know how much i really care to keep doing it.
Youtube being youtube.
...What I mean is, would it be possible for this video, if completed, to replace the existing SRAM-verification file for Momohime-mode? I assume the exact contents of the original save file, when saving to the second on Momohime, wouldn't affect luck or timing in the run itself (though with some games, you never know), so long as it meets the condition to unlock Shigarui.
Also, the rules now clearly say not to if it doesn't make any real difference.
...Which is rather inconsistent, as the rules ALSO suggest using the hardest difficulty, and we have runs that use SRAM for the sole purpose of enabling said difficulty.

That's possible i guess.

In this case though, the hardest difficulty is nearly identical to an easier one.
Just saved 1428 frames on boss 2. Total time was 2:01.95. And oh god, it was terrible. Half the time is spent hitting one at a time, or chasing them around. Their movement doesn't appear to be random, so i don't know that that can really be improved much, but ugh...

Thoughts? How much would you guys hate me for moving on with this?

That looked much better. I definitely could sense it went faster than last time.

Update on boss 2: saves 220 more frames. I may or may not just keep that and continue on.
Also finished planning the full shrine route:
1: n/a
2: shrine in iga
3: warp to iga, set shrine to owari
4: warp to owari, no shrine
5: back to owari, no shine
6: more owari... no shrine
7: owari, shrine in suruga
8: warp to suruga, beat the game
Fucking awesome. inb4 rejected for too much running.

This is an awesome boss to tas. This is my first attempt at it, and i'm pretty sure i need to completely change my strategy, but it still looks awesome.
After learning about this game from Bernka's Kisuke submission, I decided to look into improving the Momohime run.
It turns out that the air dash slash causes the least hit lag of all the slashes, and even though it deals slightly less damage than the standard combo slashes, it still has a much lower ratio of hit lag caused per damage dealt. So the first 3 phases of each boss fight should use air dash exclusively in order to delay the dynamic difficulty timer as little as possible, unless other slashes are needed to make certain transition thresholds in time.
During the final phase, it seems that aerial DPS beats ground DPS by a significant margin. Even though the sliding slash is much more powerful than any of the air slashes, it causes far too much hit lag and has far too long of an animation to be useful in situations where you can hit bosses in the air.

This fight improves upon the published run's Blue Monk fight by 16-17 seconds. By canceling an air dash with a normal slash while close enough to the ground, landing will cancel the slash and allow you to start a new series of air dashes immediately after. This doesn't work on the 3rd air dash, so you can only do maximum of 2 dashes at a time this way. It might be worth using Misty Slash to interrupt his desperation attack in the final phase if it can prevent his final jump, but I'll have to look into that later.
Everything leading up to and including Wanyudo should be pretty straight forward. There's a different route with different shrine teleports that RTAers use leading up to Yukinojyo and the mountain god fights. I'm not yet sure if the route is actually faster or if it's just used to stock up on more smoke bombs and grab the pheasant hot pot recipe(neither of which would be worth taking a considerable detour for in a TAS I think).

Remember to use HLE. Wish you the best though I wished to see an improvement to Mega Man 5 before :p

Thanks for the reminder, Angerfist. Luckily everything so far was still able to sync after switching from LLE to HLE.
I anticipate both runs to be done at least before the end of the year.
18 seconds saved on Wanyudo.

Do you fully understand how random encounters in this game work, Bernka? I am beginning to get the feeling that they use the kind of pseudo random distribution where their likelihood of occurring starts low and gradually approaches 100% each time you dodge an encounter, and then resets when one does occur. And I think it seems as though some encounters are manipulable on the screen they occur, whereas other have to be manipulated during the previous screen?
Also, did you happen to find any pertinent ram addresses pertaining to the dynamic difficulty timer or random encounters?
Additionally, I recall you saying something about blades/long blades being different between Momohime and Kisuke. By this did you mean that they use the different types of blades differently, or that they just have different blades available to them that merit using one over the other? For Momohime, at least, I have blades barely beating long blades of equal base damage in DPS.
Hello.
I'd like to ask if there is recorded somewhere the amount of time required for each threshold of bosses' orange HP?
As I understand it (and I might be completely wrong), dynamic difficulty means after x amount of time used to deplete the yellow HP bar of a certain phase, a multiple of 10% of damage will be dealt to the orange bar. So I imagine the timings for each 10% are fixed at least within a certain boss and a certain phase. Or maybe it works differently?
