When I tried encoding Sonic 2, using TASBlend for Sonic's shield looked better to me.

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

The second uses CamHack.

Alright, I'll bite here... This is a fantastic idea and it looks positively awesome. I absolutely cannot argue that the end results are anything but flawless. However... why not just encode videos at 20 FPS for games using 1-frame flicker? I use it for my personal game projects (where relevant) and they look just fine. Granted that some games use 1-frame and 2-frame flicker at the same time (Mega Man X3, Blast Hornet boss fight), but for the most part, it's less trouble all around.
I'm not that hard to find... if you know where to look. -=( http://jolikmc.tumblr.com )=-

I personnally think that the character's motion at 20FPS is just too choppy. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulz_uQVXUDk (24FPS) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ULV-FU7mco (TASBlended, 30FPS) You can easily noticed the blurred background in the second provided link. That's why this new flicker method shouldbe used since it allows us to get the best of both worlds.

Watch these 2 videos: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=316312#316312 Then watch the old versions in the post above. ng_deblink was officially approved, for the reason of being the best of what we have, and almost the best we can think of.

Oh, trust me. I can notice the difference between the deflicker and non-deflicker versions of videos as well as the frame rate based on flicker. And yeah, I guess you're right. If you have the technical know-how on how to make something flicker 1-frame flicker smooth in a 30 FPS video, why not use it? Once you get the proper formula down, implementing it over and over should be pretty easy. Right?

Check out this encode of the latest GB LA submission using this modified Hybrid Encode Script that uses ngdb. Watch the credits...it looks kind of messed up. This is a shame because this is the first run I've ever tried encoding with ngdb and I am really tired of TASBlend. Any idea what went wrong? TASBlend produces far superior results for that scene.

It is a 2 bit greyscale game. That makes it hard for the function to match the way it should. I posted my recommendations and a test encode at http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=319844#319844
