If the rerecord count is hex edited, does Dolphin still increment the number of rerecords normally? Or is it like it is with hex editing movie length, where if the file is extended, Dolphin still only plays back the original length of the movie?

It's not like that, and neither is movie length. Both frame count and VI count are stored in the header. You need to edit both, or it'll end when the lower count is reached.

<AngerFist> skid, do you know any way dolphin can emulate the loading times in metroid prime? 'cause we would've tased metroid prime a lot sooner if it weren't for dolphin currently not emulating the loading times. <skidau> it should already do emulate that <skidau> is it going too fast? <AngerFist> skid, last time i checked, it didn't emulate loading times. <AngerFist> can you confirm this please? <skidau> yeh, i wrote some code to emulate that <AngerFist> lately? <skidau> no <AngerFist> can you point to your specific commit which fixed it? <skidau> it was a long time ago <skidau> the one for mario golf <AngerFist> i understand. but doesn't different games have different conditions? <skidau> not sure.. there should be a one size fits all <AngerFist> so although your coding made loading time in mario golf a reality, it still isn't happening for metroid prime. I will send a post at our metroid prime thread, ask them if dolphin still doesnt emulate loading times. <AngerFist> thanks for the feedback mate
Can someone verify if dolphin still isn't emulating the loading times? Please use the latest revision.

Here's a handy template you can use if you ever need to answer that question: Q: Does Dolphin have accurate loads in MP1 yet? A: No.

What would be a valid reason to be allowed to start a game on a completed file? because doing that allows you to skip cutscenes and there are fairly large time savers that require being able to skip cutscenes... also pretty much NO ONE wants to watch the cutscenes anyway.

I agree, but one thing. Is there a harder difficulty after beating the game? If so, then the run that uses a completed file should use that difficulty.

I guess I could do a hard mode TAS, but can I just use a save? or do I need a DTM beating the game?

You need a file that completes the game which needs to be verified by others. Please do not assume at all nobody would like to see the cutscenes. As far as I am concerned, what does hard mode offer besides adding more hp to enemies?

Being able to start at a higher difficulty is one common reason to use a save file. You'd need a DTM beating the game to produce the save (to verify it isn't hacked), but that shouldn't be too hard; the verification movie doesn't need to be be optimised, you could just play it realtime on the emulator, using savestates to help out when necessary.

Ugh but dolphin runs at 5FPS and it would take like 1 hour to beat the game if it went at 60 <_< Can I get someone else with a computer that doesn't suck do it then send me the save? And Angerfist, Hard mode literally just makes you take more damage from enemies and you do less damage to them :P

Does this brings different strategies to the table or is it just going to prolong battles, with you avoiding damage perfectly? If it's the second, you're likely to get bad feedback for going Hard mode. If there's some tricks that requires you to be able to skip cutscenes, then I think it should be acceptable for you to use a game save on a normal mode playthrough. Better ask around to be sure though.

Right, so the question is then: is it even worth it running at hard mode knowing what that mode offers? In my opinion, even if you get the green light to skip the cutscenes, do a run on normal mode. For instance in Mega Man X5, when you play at hard mode, the levels gets harder. They added more lethal spikes and whatnot. Since this isn't the case with Metroid Prime, it would be pretty dull to see longer fights.

yeah Hard mode pretty much just makes every non-skipable boss take roughly 2x longer and you can't damage boost everywhere without getting more health along the way <_<

It's generally considered not worth playing on hard if all it changes is enemy HP, because it makes the run longer, not more interesting. If it changes your HP, it affects how much you can damage boost/take damage intentionally/simply ignore getting shot at; it's debatable whether or not that makes the run more entertaining.

I don't think anyone would want to see the game done more cautiously/slowly just to know it was done on, hardmode! dun dun duuunnn. ...but then again, I don't think anyone would want to see it don slowly on normal mode ether because of not being able to skip cutscenes <_<

i'll throw in my vote for normal mode. i'd prefer having the cutscenes skipped but i'd be fine with them too.

I would like to see a (NewGame+?) normal mode run with the cutscenes skipped (2nd time through), especially since the finished run won't be put in the Hacks/Demos section anymore, and it will still be published on the main GameCube page.

A normal mode run with the ability to skip cutscenes is what most people have asked for, so I guess I'll start on that DTM beating the game on normal next time I'm REALLY bored. but like, I will be able to submit that right? The DTM beating the game and the actually TAS.

You submit the TAS and include a link to the verification movie in the submission text.

The person who judges your run will play back the verification dtm and then play back your "normal mode, cutscenes skipped" TAS, and the TAS is verified if it starts from the save that the verification dtm makes. Like I said, just include it in the submission text.

For the record, I'd love to see the cutscenes, especially when Ridley flies over Phendrana Drifts as it's one of the most memorable and beautiful cutscenes I've ever seen + I am an avid metroid fan and I regard the Prime series as the best games out there with a few others :)
