Not sure how original it is. I made this account just to ask this and probably get shot down. I've seen so many TAS's now though the most fun to watch IMO is still Super Mario 64. After I saw the TAS of Sonic 3 and Knuckles where Tails was controlled as well, I wondered if you could use TAS for all sorts of hilarious runs.
Prime example, MARIO PARTY! Where all 4 characters are used towards the prime objective of collecting as many stars as possible in the least amount of time to 100% the game. In my head, this sounds like a hilarious idea though I've had oddball ideas that only sounded good until I said it out loud. I have to wonder just how fast this would go. Obviously, you would use luck manipulation to get to the stars as quickly as possible. On a stage where there is a star space that jumps around, you could use all the characters to get them all faster then you would alone without risk of them getting stolen.
Not to mention, the minigames would be hilarious. You'd just let the one with the least coins win every time. Then again, you would probably choose the games yourself using luck manipulation and just cash in on the most profitable minigames over and over again and spending them on stars the next turn.
Just a stupid idea I had. I have to wonder why it hasn't been done before and thought I'd bring it to the forum =P

The big problem with this is that mupen64 (our N64 TASing emulator) is so desync prone that it can be hellishly difficult to TAS even 1-player games if you have bad luck. Also I don't know if it's possible to record several controllers in mupen64.
The idea in itself might be good though (never played Mario Party) but I fear the emulation stability is not quite there yet to do a project like this.

What Warepire here is saying is that our N64 emulator is very difficult to use for TASing, especially Mario Party in your case.

Bobeque, I think applying the 4-player idea to Mario Party might make for a good run, but some people have expressed in the Mario Party thread that they don't think Adventure Mode would make for an interesting run because of having to wait for the characters to move around the board, collect stars, etc. Some have expressed interest in a 1-player Mini-Game Island TAS, though, where the action to cutscene ratio is larger.

I am actually a bit amazed that you never seen me before around here since I consider myself somewhat active.
I assumed there would be a technical issue holding back a run like this. It sounds difficult and time consuming.
It's been ages ago since I've actually played Mario Party, but I do remember the cutscenes being skippable pretty quickly. And don't get me wrong, 1-player Adventure Mode would be dull as hell and would probably backfire if the computer decides to do something STUPID and counter-intuitive like stealing goddam stars! 4 players cooperating in sync would just be so funny to watch as so much of the game revolves around intentionally ruining the game for the other players.

What would you do in a game like tug of war or that one rowboat one, I have to wonder. Maybe if you have a character with tons of coins that you'd like redistributed, you could use a 1v3 minigame to spread the wealth so that one character standing right in front of the star space can get it next turn.
There is an element of strategy involved in the placement of each character in games like DK or Luigi's boards. You would want players spread across the board to optimize your chances of buying a new star as quickly as possible. I don't remember if the stars spawned in random spaces on the map or if there was a way to determine where the next star is going to be.
So it seems the consensus is it would be a fun run to watch if it there were tools that made it possible.
It's possible to make a 4-player Mario Party TAS. It's just difficult to make because the emulator is very prone to desyncs (when the input loses sync with the game). You can still make the run if you're willing to work through the desyncs you will encounter.

It's always possible to know what will happen before it happens. That's what makes it a tas. If it's random, you can manipulate it to be wherever you want it. If it's not random (or rather it's set at the start of the game), then you can just get the start, and check where the next will be, then go back and make sure you have someone right in front of it.

Enough people got hurt from minigames like Tug-O-War that Nintendo decided not to release it on VC.
He was talking about Mario Party 1 specifically, but if he finds Mupen too annoying, like you said, there's always Mario Party 4-7 on GameCube.

Or did you mean the top comment on that video talking about the person's palms bleeding? That's an example of what I'm talking about.
I struggled with the the rotate the thumbstick games at first, but once you get the idea and the skill, you can beat the very hard difficulty computers every time, no palm required. They wear out the controller as well though. I am sure the other Mario Party games would make for great runs as well, but MP the first is really the only one I have extensive experience with. I played 2 and 4 briefly and I was not a fan of 4. I could probably still play all these minigames and not need the tutorial screen to this day. I once tried to do a run where I'd start with a fresh save and play each map with full play versus very hard computers. I wanted to see if I could beat the game only playing each map once. I don't think I could do it. I could win most of the time no matter how unlucky I got because I get 2 guaranteed stars by the end in the coin star and mini game star rewards but collecting 100 stars in that time would have been highly unlikely
