Obviously we have established that a TAS involves tool assist in order to achieve perfection at the quickest speed possible. What I was wondering is what is the proper term for tool assist movies that are not meant to be speedruns, but rather just special runs such as no-deaths or something like that? I ask because I want to post those types of vids on my channel, but need to know a correct term to use when I explain in the title or description that it's not a real time playthrough.

I think "superplay" is commonly used.

That kind of run would be a "tool-assisted superplay", which still shortens to TAS.

an Example of a superplay is Genisto's SMB3 Playaround

Well, I just didn't put anything about it in the title, but rather just put tool assisted in the description. Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Roy12x3n1R8 Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yso6fB7AgA4 Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS7Iw40SUEA I heard the term "tool assisted playthrough" earlier today, but not quite sure that describes some of the abnormal things that you would see in a "playaround" vid. Forgive me, but I may know what a realtime playthrough is and I know what a TAS is, but I'm still learning the huge grey area in between. ^_^

The Japanese TAS community on nicovideo sometimes uses "TAP" for Tool-assisted play(around).

Usually a TAS or Tool Assisted Playaround does things that are impossible in realtime (or at least very hard). Earthbound, for example, gets the Gutsy Bat (1 in 128 chance). The Mortal Kombat playarounds glitches the game is weird ways. The Scripted runs for Half-Life 2 on SDA were "tool assisted" and those demonstrated how the engine can be abused. The Fallout 3 run on SDA also demonstrated how the Havok Physics engine has this major issue with grabbing stuff. Find the impossible and accomplish it.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

A playaround is, specifically, a run meant to be entertaining rather than break a record. "Superplay" is a good generic word that can be used for speedruns, scoreruns, etc., and even playarounds.

Runs like these are sometimes called 'half-assisted', since they use tools, but only to cover the most obvious mistakes, rather than to aim for perfection. That would make this run a 'half-assisted playthrough'.

XD Lol at your opinion. Amaura is saying that the author of that run was too lazy to fix some mistakes, so he just went on kinda like me sometimes. And FYI, your mega man run is AT LEAST 15 minutes off the record.

Half-assed=half-assisted. At least that's what I'm assuming. ;)

There is a TAS of Choro Q (a racing game) that does not use the accelerator. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm18273721 That is a "non-speedrun" but is instead, a "superplay"
