The SNES has different version numbers. You can see this for yourself with a copy of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Pause the game, then push Start+Select to see what version your SNES is. Mine is 2/1/3 (CPU=2, PPU1=1, PPU2=3). So I was looking around for information about how game knows what kind of SNES you have, and found a somewhat relevant thread on the BSnes boards. Also according to that thread, there is a game called Super Bonk that fails to play its own demo correctly on a 2/1/3 SNES. So I'm just wondering about the implications for TASes of the SNES, and specifying which system version they target. BSnes is currently emulating a 2/1/3 SNES.

Checkout the SD2SNES source. There is an information dialogue in the main menu that spits out the same information (PPU #, etc...) if you're looking to see how the game gets the information.
