Thisvirus game is about a bouncy ball navigating through your harddrive, wiping away your files 20 different mazes. I found it on youtube and thought it maybe a good game to TAS.
I have a WIP that passes through almost half the game, but I'm stuck trying to use a shortcut. Here's the picture of the stage; I'll post the WIP later.
Edit: WIP
Yea, the rerecord count is next to none. That's because rerecording blanks the game's screen. So I used a hex editor to do the run. The run may not be optimal, as a result.
So...this and two other similar games made by the same....group? works on VirtualBox, so I might TAS all 3.
Settings:
b zero.exe - Multimedia Timer Mode: Asynchronous, 30fps 22fps
cb.exe - Multimedia Timer Mode: Asynchronous, 30fps 18fps
cb2.exe - Multimedia Timer Mode: Asynchronous, 30fps 25 fps
Nostalgia! I used to spend about 30 hours playing this game... Thanks to digging this up!
Bound Zero seems to be vault, but other two games look interesting. Both has quite complicated physics and plenty room to improve.
Odd. When I try to download Bound Plus from http://www.uik.jp/craftm.html, it is identified as a virus and deleted, but when I download it from the dropbox link in the opening post it doesn't have a problem with it.
Crazy Bound is driving me nuts since when I mistakenly thought this game was runs at 30fps, I made a test run.
I'm trying to convert it to 18fps, and it's hell.
Well, the run will use the "official" exe file from the site, since the intro's slightly different between the dropbox link and the site link. I think it's a different version.
Edit: In case anyone wonders how I came up with "18fps", I've noticed the game adds extra frames at 19+ fps every now and then, and it doesn't at 18fps.
Edit 2: Remember I wrote that syncing the run is hell? Well, guess what? In the test run, I did a trick that saved 1 frame, but it's very specific, any input off will cause it to not work. I've been trying all night to sync it to 18fps, and it just refuses to work. This is going to take a while.
New post, as this is a different topic.
The avi dump fails to record the sound from these games. Will that be alright? It's only a bunch of jumping noises, but this run was rejected for not emulating sound correctly.
Can a judge please give their opinion on this matter?
Here are some stuff known about the addresses of Crazy Bound:
You start with 5 health.
You start in X. Pos of 6400
Abilities:
0 - Nothing
1 - Blue Box
3 - Blue Box + WallJump
7 - Blue Box + WallJump + Destroy Bricks
15 - Blue Box + WallJump + Destroy Bricks + Arrow "Cannons"
31 - Blue Box + WallJump + Destroy Bricks + Arrow "Cannons" + Steer
All the other values are glitched
Once value 31 is reached, you can go back to the start area, and press in order " Up, Up, Down, Right, Right, Left, Up, Right" to unlock the way to the end. Getting all coins is optional, but makes things more interesting. I'm going to do an any% run for feedback first.
I just watched your WIP. It syncs well, except the absence of sound. It's weird that when I tested with Crazy Bound 2, only BGM could be heard but none of any sound effect(like ball bouncing sound).
Also, I like the part you step on the bomb box to save time.
Besides, I have a question. I just recall that this game has a speed setting which can be made with Enter key. In Crazy Bound, default value is 23, and the lower the value is, the faster the game becomes. To beat the game as fast as possible, this value has to be set as 0. So... did you count this while making TAS?
One problem. That changes the frame rate only. Since hourglass's frame rate can't be changed, I'll have to manually set the fps to ~39 for this to work, or it'll stay at the same speed. Kinda like Syobon Action with the space bar only working if you run the game at 60 fps.
Thanks! Also, regarding changing the frame rate, I was reminded of this quote:
While it's for Syobon Action only, I have a feeling that it may also apply for this game, since changing the frame rate isn't really an "improvement"; if you slow the video by 1/2, it'll be pretty much the exact same speed (try changing the value to 0 while running this game at 18fps 41 fps to see what I mean).
