Post subject: Should you be able to record certain GB games in GBA mode?

I remember in the Shantae topic, Josh L. said there was some special feature that the Game Boy Advance unlocks, but the emulator doesn't recognize that you can record in that mode. I don't think that's fair. Should this be changed? Now I am padding my post so the Submit button will work.

Yeah... is that really useful? In the Oracle Zelda games there's that stupid shop that appears only in a gba, but it's nothing special, I guess. Must be an easy fix, anyway...

The special feature in Shantae is simply that the game adjusts it's palette to look better on a GBA if it detects that it is played on one. Apparently without this enhancement it looked terrible on real GBA hardware according to the game authors. So the enhancement doesn't actually use any features of the hardware. it's just a branch in the code. That said, they apparently did throw a couple of things in which may or may not be useful for TASing, but they could all have easily existed in the GBC game itself.

Should you? Of course. Do any games actually do anything different, aside from cosmetic things like palette adjustment to make up for the GBA's shitty screen? AFAIK, only Zelda.

Since I'm not a regular poster here or even all that aware of the development for VBA-RR, I don't know if the version I've been using, v23.6 svn480, is supposed to be the latest stable build or if v24 is better (or worse). Maybe this bug has been fixed but so far, after so many years, it seems to have eluded everyone???
