I've been thinking about TASing this, if PS2 rerecording ever comes.
Anybody know which upgrades for X could speed up the run? I heard that the blue boots upgrade for X (invincible dash) also makes him move faster, but I never really noticed anything. Another point is how viable red body armor (completely negating hitstun) is, considering that in TAS settings X would have much less of a problem just blowing up stuff in front of him.
Another important point, what would be the fastest way to deal with bosses? I know X has his charge shot > couple of uncharged shots > weakness combo, but Zero can pretty much chip away with air or ground slashes without bosses ever getting more than ~10 frames of invincibility.
Also, does anyone know if Vile has to come at least a set amount of times in the stages?

Oh, that. No, I probably won't use that. The animation takes way too long.

Actually, the red body armor negating hitstun might make it easier to damage boost. I haven't played the game only X1 2 & 3 but that sounds like it would help with damage boosting :)
also, remember to bring the right amount of prickle shields, cause the spikes (especially in the last levels) from what ive seen ... And the fact that its gonna be speedran ... Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah, probably a good idea -.-

True, like I said in the original post. (Speaking of, it's been nearly two years since I wrote that, and PS2 rerecording still hasn't reached acceptable standards, or even progressed a whole lot to my knowledge. Huh.)
However, there's still the question whether it's worth getting; especially as Earthrock Trilobyte's stage has a very significant sequence break (using Zero's rising Rasetsusen glitch) which would save a lot of time, but also skip the whole area where the red body part would be. I'm guessing it will be faster in a tool-assisted environment to just blow everything in front up as fast as possible (or take damage if necessary), rather than waste dozens of seconds or even minutes going out of my way to collect the armor part. Same goes for the blue foot part (invincible dash), which requires a significant amount of backtracking in Burn Rooster's stage.
Actually, in a TAS all those spikes would be easily passable. Also, even if I would use it, I can only have one Prickle Barrier at a time, and it leaves the character in question at 1 HP, which is possibly also disadvantageous.

Like i said, i dont know much about x8 other than the bosses and only a few of the armors
Also, for the blue foot part, i remember someone getting it easily on the first run of burn rooster, not to mention it was the first stage he ran through (not counting noahs park) in the speedrun. It was the pc version, but since that was the time where it was easier to port games to pc with less extra glitches, i think it would work.
The forum's almost dead but I hope to revive it if this post could. Haha. So here's a TAS of Mega Man X8 on PS2. This was quite fun to TAS. It's just too bad it couldn't end on the last input that would finish 2nd form Lumine since you have to skip the next cutscene first before everything will roll to credits and to saving clear data options. I skipped the subsequent cutscenes because I think it will just make the video longer. Haha.
