I haven't watched the episode yet, but you can just make another channel for this stuff. I have 2 channels; one for my WIPs and another for whatever may be completed. Or if you want, you can also troll your subscribers like how I keep getting PM's to show a complete playthrough of Monster House, which I eventually did - with 80% of the run showing an empty room.

Maybe it was a nice little movie, and a neat project which also served as practical experience and as the senior film for its director. But in the end, it didn't have the same nice animation, voices, pacing and interesting story to it. Instead it was filled with out-of-place internet/movie references or crossovers that didn't even make much sense.
There were definitely pacing problems. One can clearly tell how the pros have the experience to create the story so that it remains interesting to watch throughout and keep the story advancing at a good pace (not too slow, not too fast). (Not that amateurs aren't capable of this, of course. There are many amateur productions that are very well made in this regard.)
and it's one of the reasons I will never call myself "brony" because it is a term that those thousands of people coined.
You can deny it all you like, but that doesn't change the facts. If you are male, and you are a fan of the show, you are a brony. Get over it. ;)

I found the fan film quite enjoyable, frankly. A bit rough around the edges, sure, but that's part of the charm. I mean, it is an unofficial episode, so it can do obvious fan references such as the scene with Derpy and the Flowerpots or the goddamn Powerpuff Girls. I find people are being way too critical of what is essentially a student project. As for the other thing, I am greatly disheartened by the seperationist attitude between 'bronies' and 'non-bronies'. If people were to simply accept you can like a children's cartoon and would just live and let live, the internet would be a better place.

The video quality of the episode wasn't bad. The VAs attempts to emulate the actual VAs was close. The pacing felt like a movie script writer writing for a TV show. Some of the gags went on WAAAAAY too long. While it was nice that they included some of the brony gags like Scootaloo and chicken reference or Derpy and muffins in some cases the shoutouts to the fandom just were too blatant to be cool nods. It became in-your-face trash. If they would have cut down some of the gag length, it would have probably ran closer to an actual TV cartoon length (around 22 minutes) and probably would have been much better because of just that. So in summary, the fan episode wasn't bad, just ok.

I'd be willing to watch this again in Japanese, subtitles or not! Nice work on the intro. I loved the touch of including what appears to be the VA names for the main characters, including the fact that they colored them to match the character they belong to.

Kenny's dub verdict: Intro song: Quite good Twilight's voice: Acceptable Spike's voice: Meh Applejack's voice: Doesn't fit at all Granny Smith's voice: Fits perfectly Applebloom's voice: Trying a bit too hard on the "cute kid" thing Rainbow's voice: Sounds far too much like a guy and that laugh is horrible Rarity's voice: Absolutely spot on Fluttershy's voice: Lacks something Nightmare Moon's voice: Works quite well Ending song: Also quite good So, all in all, not convincing. Somewhat better than the ear-destroying Swedish dub, though.

It's not actually rare for people to confuse her for a stallion. (I just hope that the she's a man in Japan trope doesn't apply here literally. It would be quite awkward to see "him" wear those frilly dresses on the couple of occasions she has.)

I know "Christian" is probably a name instead of referring to a major religion in this context, but who cares? This is the best "Christian" fimfic I've ever read: ;D

Warp: Nah, it's a pretty obvious "tomboy" voice, but it's not done well at all.

Someone subbed the first ep http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffjXzs9Vqg0 EDIT: This is splendid. I will enjoy rewatching this show in Japanese.

Wait... why was Twilight thanking the carriage stallions cut out? I would have never thought that Japanese would succumb to bowdlerization. (Or is it just some kind of technical glitch?) (And why do I remember that scene in the first place?)

They also cut out Pinkie guessing where Celestia could have hidden. I'm thinking they did it because of the time restriction. They're adding a 1.5 minute intro, an ending, an ending show, commercials, and all of this has to fit in the 30 minute mark. But I may be wrong..

Rarity's voice reminds me of Kasumi Tendo for some reason...

I'm going to assume it's because of time constraints, they shortened several other scenes as well: Pretty much the everything between Celestia not appearing and Nightmare Moon doing the same was cut like MUGG mentioned, the shot where RD laughs at twilight is shorter, Twilight's foreshadowing after the party is also gone. And I'm with Warp, it feels weird that I can spot these differences effortlessly... outside of a few PMVs I've only seen the first episode twice.

Yes, something definitely felt amiss during Nightmare Moon's appearance. It seemed too sudden. (In this case I couldn't point out what exactly was missing, but it definitely felt like something had been cut.) They have to cut the episode to make time for that stuff at the end? Sheesh. How about just not doing that stuff at the end instead?

If they keep cutting it like that, I don't think I'll be following.

My understanding is that having that silly little clip at the end is sort of required in Japanese entertainment.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.
