Post subject: Best emulator for Actraiser 2 ?

Hello everyone, I have a zsnes 1.51. I want te record my Actraiser 2's speedrun (normal speedrun, not TAS). When I play with the european version, there is a freeze everytime I go to Death Heim. When I play with a US version, there is a freeze when I want to enter to Industen. So, my questions are : - Is it a problem about the rom or my emulator ? - Must I play with the snes9X emulator ? With this, will I be able to record my play and change it into AVI ? If yes, how ? Thanks a lot for the help.

When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

I can't say for sure whether it's a ROM or an emulation problem, but I know ZSNES isn't exactly known for its accuracy. Try and find out if you get the same issues in snes9x. If not, then it's a ZSNES problem. At least for the second question, yes, snes9x can be used to record to AVI (otherwise it'd be pretty hard to encode TASes on it for this site). You might also want to try out lsnes or BizHawk, which use the very accurate bsnes core. However, if you have a weaker PC, you might get performance issues with those.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

The TAS was made on lsnes because snes9x do have issues with this game. So use lsnes or BizHawk (same SNES emulation core)

I don't think ActRaiser 2 works with SNES9X 1.51. I haven't tried 1.52 or 1.53

The currently published run for Actraiser 2 was done on LSNES, which is a rerecording emulator based off of BSNES. Most likely, you're going to have to use either BizHawk or LSNES for what you want to do since in the submission text it's mentioned that Actraiser 2 isn't TASable in snes9x.

Incredible, 5 answers in 15 minutes ^^ It's really differents than french's forums... °°' By the way, thanks a lot. So, I must change emulator. You can guarantee me that if I try a new version of Snes9x for my Actraiser 2's speedrun, there will be no more freezes ? (I say that because I "finished" the game 4 times in 2 days, and every versions of the rom don't pass...) Oh, and I don't want to do a TAS, but a normal speedrun. I come here because I knew that the TAS speedrunner are more specialysts. Sorry for my english ^^'

MAYBE the latest Snes9x versions (v1.54 or newer) will work, but to be on the safe side you should use an emulator where the game is known to work, like Higan (get at www.byuu.org), BizHawk or lsnes. Higan, BizHawk and lsnes are emulators, just like zsnes and Snes9x, but they are a lot better than zsnes and Snes9x.

I can swear I've seen news of 1.54 since some months back, maybe I've been imagining things then...

I just download BizHawk, but it seems more complicate than zsnes to use. Hope that it will work perfectly :/

Check the forums for Bizhawk for help (http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=64). I have no experience with it nor lsnes. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13612 might be the most useful thread for you.

Did you download both the BizHawk program and the installer? You need both, run the installer which will install all the necessary Microsoft programs that BizHawk depends on. After running the installer, try to run BizHawk again. This is all I can help, if you still have problems after this refer to the BizHawk section.

I think this is it: http://bizhawk.googlecode.com/files/bizhawk_prereqs.zip (So much trouble just to get it installed.)

Thank you, I recognise this, I downloaded it yesterday but it wont succeed. I tried snes9x and after some preparations, it works. Now, I must test all the game. I'll come back to inform you.

Try using BizHawk 1.4.0 instead of 1.4.1. In 1.4.1, for me, it slows down SNES so badly that it runs at 0.25fps. SNES in 1.4.0 runs at about 20-30fps for me. I don't know if that is the problem or not for you.

Ok right on ! Snes9x work perfectly with european version of Actraiser 2 ! Just finished the game. @Fractal : The BizHawk is too hard to even too open. I tried everything that everyone suggest, but impossible to use it. Not perfect for "normal people"... :/ I really like this forum and people here, I guess I'll take home here nom ^^

Are you missing any .dll files? What error message did you get?

@jlun2 : In fact, I'm not a specialist when it comes to installs a lot of things. I do exactly what the friends said, and when I double clic on the emulator BizHawk, nothing happened. I want a BizHawk allready ready when you download it, like te others, like that, when I double clic, it opens by itself ^^ ------------------ For my speedrun about Actraiser 2, I only wat to record my play, not TAS it, and bring it on my channel on youtube. And it seems that I have found the good rom that don't crash with snes9x. It records correctly, nom I have to see if it's converting good in AVI.

Just for complete my argument for my actraiser 2 speedrun, I only play in expert mode, which means that the game is even more hardcore than the hardest mode US has. More life points for bosses, more time to cast a spell, more hardcore in fact, so I will never be able to do the same speedrun that you have for the record 44 minutes or 40 minutes in TAS. The strategy is different for a lot of points, and I lose enormeously time.

It appears to have been done in snes9x, but it also appears to be done on the European version which speedrunner says works perfectly in snes9x. I also wasn't aware there were past submissions for Actraiser 2 before LSNES was created >_>

I just finished the game a second time ^^' That's snes9x 1.51. My PC is "hp", graphic cart don't know, but no problem with that, and I'm on Windows 7.
