i saw this glitch about MK2 on this glitch site a couple months back. ive tried it MANY MANY times, but havent been able to actually do it.
Mortal Kombat 2 Play as other characters in 1P mode sent in by Digital Terror See photos of this glitch. http://kontek.net/davidwonn/mkombat2.html In a one player game, when picking the 1 player, pick your player 1 and then when the screen begins to fade out, hit start on the second controller (Timing has to be perfect), and the player 2 cursor will come up, but not announce a fighter for player 2 before the screen fades out. Now who ever the first players computer opponent is, that is who the second player is playing as (secret characters or bosses). After a few times of doing this trick, you can take the Secret characters, off their normal stage (Goro's lair) and play them in any stage (Check the screen shots). Also, when you play as the Secret characters, the normal characters you fight in the game (CPU) becomes very tough to beat, even with the Secret characters.
i was wondering if someone could make an smv file with someof these characters ready to be played. it would be great if, you decided to do it, you could make player 1 be the joining player, so player 1 will become the hidden character / boss. also, if you do it, post the version of the rom you were using (1.0, 1.1, E, U, etc.)

You could make it your self rather easy with frame advance I suppose? Shoulden't be too hard figureing out when the exact frame after selecting a character appears. I have tried that glitch on real SNES though. Didn't get it to work. :(

I would say it's fake, because if you try to play as hidden char / bosses from using game genie or par, their glitchy / freeze up game.

If the secret characters in SNES plays anything like their Genesis counterparts, those screenshots are fake. For example, Noob Saibot cannot use his spear when you play him, doing that button combination freezes the game directly. Also, it's not possible to choose a new character before the secret characters, right? Losing means you are returned immediately to the regular tournament.

i never even thought of that. i guess it is impossible then. thats so shitty that some of those glitches are nothing more than someones skill at photoshop. but, you should still be able to do this with kintaro / shao kahn, correct?

That's possible I guess, but if he doctored the other screenshots I see no reason to think that the glitch is legit to start with. And you said you tried it a hundred times alread. If you want to try the secret characters, there are game genie codes, at least for Genesis. I don't know about SNES.

The game only freezes if you use the "wrong" buttons. Not all things makes the game freeze. However I would say those screenshots are indeed fake. Unless someone has used a game genie in order to play against eachother. In this guide http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/mortal_kombat_2_a.txt there are some codes you can enter in order to fight AGAINST the last bosses and the hidden ones. But there would probably be some game genie codes to enable you to play. I haven't seen any though. I just clicked the first guide on GameFAQ's.

>The game only freezes if you use the "wrong" buttons. Not all things makes the game freeze. I know. But Noob Saibot's spear move is one of the moves that freeze the game, at least in Genesis version. The Genesis version has codes to actually play the hidden characters. Did you try to start a two-player game and inputting one of the codes in SNES version? Usually what the code does is set player2=ShaoKahn, it doesn't matter if that player is human or CPU. Somebody should probably contact that guy and get this fake glitch off the list.

I mean this: http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/411234-ultimate-mortal-kombat-3-xbox-360-screenshot-choose-your-difficulty.jpg - Can I play with any diffulty any I want ? - Can I fight to enemies with few attacks? Yes it'll make TAS look boring, but it help me beat game very fast - Need Finish moves with every enemies?

As such a run does not exist as precedent yet, I believe as long as it isn't sloppy, you could go with any Destiny, difficulty, etc. This is probably about all you want to do in relation to speed/entertainment tradeoffs. Such a run would almost certainly go into the Vault tier instead of the Moon runs, so entertainment should probably not be sacrificed for pure speed. As a result, I'd say no Fatalities/Finishers.

I figured out "hardest difficulty" is okay for Vault and doesn't hinder accepting to there, even if it's slower than "easy". It's just the faster difficulty movie is going to obsolete the slower one, but I'm not sure.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

If you are going for a speed run (aka not entertainment), finishing move probably shouldn't be used at all, unless its faster to finish an opponent then to wait for him to die by himself. If you ignore such a speed improvement for entertainment sakes, your run most likely will be rejected (Vault run cannot use speed/entertainment trade-off) and a speed run of MK2 sure aint gonna make it to moon/star tier, where speed/entertainment trade-off are welcome Hardest difficulty should be used, and about which destiny, I am unsure, I guess shortest would be called any % and longest 100%. One thing, I do know the first opponent is easier then the one coming after, does that difficulty progression keeps on during the whole "Destiny"? If so, it means opponent eventually get stronger in the longer "Destiny" making that the hardest difficulty of the game. Edit: "Can I fight to enemies with few attacks? Yes it'll make TAS look boring, but it help me beat game very fast" Yes, you have to, like I said if you are aiming for speed, you can't let anything comes between you and finishing the game fast, otherwise its not getting published. Fighting games are somewhat special in that its either full speed or full entertainment, otherwise its gets downvoted (meaning its Vault bound) and if there is obvious speed compromised for entertainment, judge will have to reject it. Just to make sure you understand, quoting judging guideline
Tiers 1. We have 3 tiers a movie can be accepted to. If the audience likes the movie ("Yes" votes outweigh "No" and "Meh", positive reaction in forum posts), it is accepted for Moons or Stars. 2. If the movie is found boring, it can be accepted for Vault, but only if it does not contain speed/entertainment tradeoffs of any kind (no damage, pacifist), and is a plain time record. Only 2 types of goals are acceptable for Vault: fastest completion time (any%), and full-completion (such as 100% or best ending). If you are not sure the game would be well received, don't include time sacrifices. You can also post WIPs on Forums to collect the feedback and determine the audience tastes.

Indeed, try to find purely fastest tactics through the game and do some research on the glitches to see if there's anything there that can help you. As far as choosing destiny goes... well, for pure speed, I'd say it is acceptable to take the shortest path through a fighting game. That's what I was planning to do in a hypothetical Mortal Kombat 4 for GBC speed TAS. I like the idea of fighting the secret enemies too in a 100%. There's basically Smoke and Jade, both accessible without jumping through many hoops, and it would add variety to a run.

Huh? You like? No, I don't need it. Just want know rule of fastest for longest 100% MK games just example, still have other games have secret enemies. So am I need beat them for full 100% and fastest? Because if I pass them, I can beat game faster, but then can I have full 100% ?

If you take damage during a round, it saves a little time at the end of a round when the "Flawless Victory" message is skipped.

Finally I have done. Full optimize all I can, faster more than my demo on top with 1213 frames If no problems, then shall I make new submission or edit my old record for this record? i think mortal kombat is a pretty cool guy, eh walks on people's faces and doesn't afraid of anything My silliness aside, why did you get the Flawless during so many Round 2 fights? It's inconsistent, and probably took some extra time.

Manipulating enemy A.I. can be pretty painful. Optimally a run would not have flawless victories at all... strive as close to that goal as it is possible. Can you take damage elsewhere than the start of a round, for example, between the repeated bicycle kicks?
