I agree. Sacrificing material as much as possible and set the CPU checkmate in as less moves as possible. That could be interesting if you understand something in chess.

Though, timeattack or not a chess game is a chess game. Only strategy you use make the difference slowdown or not. A silly game to timeattack is Popeye :P

I tried out NES Chessmaster a bit today and found that it makes some really bad moves on its default setting (newcomer 1). If a time attack were made it would have to be on a normal setting (60 moves in 5 minutes). Some really nice attacking games can be made, but the viewer will have to be a little patient because the chessmaster takes a couple seconds to think per move.

I could do a Chessmaster on Snes timeattack if you want? Or on NES?

Wow, it's a great idea. I prefer on SNES

shouldn't matter too much, but the NES version starts in 2D mode which makes it easier to see things. If you do make one, do it on at least 60/5 difficulty. Edit: ok, I just beat chessmaster in 14 moves using no savestates. Game went: Deviance-Chessmaster 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Bxc3+ 6. bxc3 Ne7 7. Nf3 O-O 8. Bd3 Nd7 9. Bxh7+ Kxh7 10. Ng5+ Kg8 11. Qh5 Nf6 12. exf6 Re8 13. Qxf7+ Kh8 14. Qxg7# 1-0 It started losing to me the moment it came out of its opening book. Computers=stupid by nature.

To Phil: I would also prefer making on SNES, since it is a bigger game on size and snes is a newer system than nes, so I'm sure Chessmaster plays stronger on snes, therefore it will be harder to beat him. I'm really surprised how many guys on a site like this know chess. For those who are interested to play chess live (you can select the time control up to crazy 1 min per game) and many other games of skills against another human I recommend the best free livegame site on the net: www.gamecolony.com - The thrill of competition. I myself play there since 2000. So if you Deviance or someone else want to compare your real chess knowledge against me or whoever just tell it.

WOW! Such chess experts in this topic, awesome. I guess Deviance would kick my ass in this case :-) By the way: Is Deviance a GM?

Nes and Snes chessmasters are about equal in skill. I was able to play similar lines against both. At 60/5 difficulty they seem around Class A-B strength.

I'm around expert skill. I've beaten a couple masters at shorter time controls, but I'm not a GM yet.

I'd like to see a perfect chess game where you dont lose any piece and grabs all the enemy's pieces leaving the king for last and checkmating him.

Meh... Time attacks of chess games always turn into "So just how stupid is the AI?"

How about Gauntlet II for the NES? The highest level I remember getting to was around 170 or so. After a while, the levels begin to repeat themselves. If you have multiple players, you get infinite continues. If you do single player, you get one life. I remember the hardest part of that game was killing the dragon, but not firing an extra shot, so you don't destroy the powerups that are dropped.

What about Rampage? It's fun to crush down buildings ad infinitum, while eating people and avoiding helicopters.
No.

Any Dance Dance Revolution game. (On the other hand, it might be interesting to see a tool assisted score attack on Parapa the Rapper. The optimal "rapping" sequence would probably sound completely awful.)

I often got a rating of "Cool!" by just doing the order of buttons to push in one line as fast as I could.

It'd be cool to see someone draw the mona lisa as fast as possible... but I don't know how entertaining it would be.

Not really. Take DDR for example, once you get past the mass of arrows and their speed it would just be as though 'auto-play' is on. Too predictable. I'd actually be interested in seeing Kid Klown in Crazy Chase done well with plenty of glitches... that game is amusing to watch regardless.
