With a lack of things to do in the summer, I might take up TASing this game. I'm known for TASing Mario Kart Wii Time Trials, but I'd like to take a step out of that and TAS a different game. This game would be relatively easy to do with only 4 directions to move in at one time. I haven't found any speedrun videos of this, so if anyone has a link to one, or knows special tricks in the game to save time, please notify me. :) Additional notes so far: -Jumping across 2 spaces is 6 frames slower than just walking across 1 at a time. -Jumping across 2 spaces into the exit is 10 frames faster than just jumping 1 space at a time.

This is what I have so far. Link to video I redid this entire run and saved 15 frames on first level with better optimization, actually skipped the 2nd cutscene (forgot to xD) saving about 3100 frames, saved 19 frames on 2nd level, 32 on the 3rd level, and 2 on the fourth level. The third and fourth level were done with better routing so the best time could be reached. 100 frames were saved on the catfish boss, but I lost 27 because of a better strat. I also want to test out the RNG (I think that's what's occuring here) patterns in the boss. The rock drops in different places depending where you are standing. I'll try to get the best possible positioning further. I might be streaming tomorrow too.

Reminds me a bit of Crash Bandicoot. Looks okay enough to eventually being published. Good work.

what happens if you jump off a moving platform mid way between grid lines?

I'm confused by what you're asking. If you jump midway, I think the direction you're moving in will correspond to which space you jump onto afterwards if there are 2 blocks.

The game seems to be on a grid of some kind. that grid only is broken on a moving platform, that has it's own grid. Is it possible, using careful, frame perfect jumps to get yourself "misaligned with the grid and glitch the game out?

Oh, I see what you're saying. Even if you are the exact frame between falling off and landing on the platform, the game realigns you on to a certain block, so I don't believe that can be done. I think I have almost found a small glitch, but I'm not sure.

It's nothing really. The stage before the catfish boss. The first wooden block I pull apart from the ship can be jumped onto before it lands in the water. From there I can jump on to the rail of the ship where I can get stuck for roughly 20 frames and then I die. I feel there could be someway to get on the ship early.

Hmm...Weird. In the next zone, there are movable blocks that you have to pull and push to go through the level. These are different from the first zone. The first 2 frames that you can jump, you twitch forward but then do not jump. The 3rd frame jumping results in a 1 space jump instead of 2 spaces...Really strange.

Could someone answer a question I have? I'm at the final boss now and I'm worrying about the movie timing. Do I end the movie recording as soon as the last possible input is entered that lets the credits roll?

The most common way is to end input when no further input is needed in order to spawn the credits.

Yes, end input when you make the last input needed to kill the final boss. However, this makes two different things you can optimize: 1) Optimize for ending input early, even if it kills the boss later. (for example, donkey kong country) 2) Optimize for killing the boss early, even if it ends the input later. Both are equally OK. Pick which one is more technically interesting.

Yup. Ended with first possible frame that will kill the boss. For now though, I screwed up big time. In the 3rd zone, 1st level, I found a 600 frame timesaver because it appears like my brain wasn't thinking back then. I need help using hex editor to change inputs and delete frames in the .dtm...
