I'd also like to point out that the Yoshi visibly does a dash and a fastfall. Given its low AI, I'm not sure that it would naturally use those kinds of moves.
I improved Event 16 by 9 milliseconds. Although, there is no video confirming Sin2324 actually got 10.10, the best video previously was 10.13 by Dr. M.
EDIT: I already beat my own time, thanks to mugg for suggesting that I make the warp star appear at the highest point on the stage:

I have a question about doing an all event match TAS: I know you need a verification movie to start from a save, but there are certain characters that are the fastest to use for the event matches, and they take sometimes many hours to unlock. Would it be ok to use a save from the internet with everything unlocked? Or would I have to unlock everything from scratch...

All you have to do is prove that the state you got the game in (all characters unlocked) can be done again. A movie file is generally the rule. It does NOT have to be optimized though. Sloppy play is OK, so long as it syncs and gets that state.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war.
The Prince doth arrive he doth please.
It's quite easy to underestimate the dedication of video game fans. As long as there's anyone on the Internet willing to play through the game on emulator for you to make the verification movie (and send it to you), that'd be enough. I'm not sure if anyone does Let's Plays of Melee any more, but if they do, that'd be a good place to look, for instance.
Unlocking all the characters in a verification movie should be very straightfoward - make a script that holds a sideways direction and continuously turbofires the Start button. You can quickly suicide through 1000 VS matches this way.
You can either pause the script every 100 matches to fight each new character to unlock them, or blindly suicide through those too and just play an extra 11 matches at the end.
Another event match I improved;

I'd be very impressed if anyone can improve this. Technically two Porygon 2's would be faster, but apparently there was some sort of cheat incident, and I don't think it's even possible to get 2 of the same pokemon in a row without cheating.
The previous TAS had 8.82, and used Moltres instead of Unknown. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jKUKwEGtzk
One of my friends (he's big in the Melee scene) can confirm that the same pokemon can't be pulled twice in a row unless they're thrown minutes apart or so.
He says that the Goldeen glitch might be worth a shot, if someone can manipulate it properly. It's supposed to be extremely rare, but the windup is frame 0, so if it's actually possible, I think it could be manipulated.
It's a rare glitch that occurs where a Goldeen comes out of a pokeball and deals damage on the single frame. As far as I know, it's only a myth, but supposedly it's an instant KO unless you're literally locked into an area, so it might be an even faster kill than Porygon if the glitch is real.
The only video that I know of could very well be a fake; if the glitch is real, it's so rare that people genuinely think it's nothing but a myth. There's very almost no proof aside from a mention in the trophy and a few minor second-hand accounts, but if it's in there, I think we could find it.

There is no goldeen glitch. I helped SuperDoodleMan make a video of it back in 2005 or so. There was an invisible Jigglypuff that used rest when goldeen came out of the pokeball.
Ah, well. I figured I'd bring it up and try to help, but if it's only a myth, then that solves that issue. Excuse me for my ignorance; I'd only heard about it in passing, and my friend insists that it's a real occurrence.
Anyway, onto the real matter at hand; what other 0-frame start-up pokemon have been tried? Porygon 2 is the fastest, and then we know Unown and Moltres have been tried. Blastoise has a 0-frame startup, but I'm guessing he's probably been tried and isn't as strong as some of the other pokemon... If I remember correctly, Scizor and Venusaur also have very quick start-ups, but they may not be 0-frame damage. Wobbuffet does, but his is fairly weak and probably isn't strong enough to do anything useful; one guy recommended trying Roy's counter to counter Wobbuffet next to Pikachu, wondering if it might count as a hit from the Pokemon, but I couldn't tell you how that would work out.
If there's anything I can do to help, let me know, otherwise I'll be sitting in the back cheering for moral support. Played this game to hell and back, but not nearly as much as some of my friends or you guys. Good luck on everything, and we'll see if there's anything we can pull out.
With people being more competent at looking into memory addresses and how games behave with Dolphin, I just want to say again, I'd really like it if someone investigated the possibility of Ness' Super Yoyo Glitch.
Mentioned on this wiki page
http://www.ssbwiki.com/Yoyo_glitch#Super_Yoyo_Glitch
It is a very rare occurrence, so very little about it is known. Its effects (including but not limited to infinite Jackets and instant KO throws) are similar to those of the Yoyo Glitch, but are more lethal and have longer lasting effects.
I think this has something to do with it but I don't know..

There was a forum topic somewhere but I can't find the link to it. In the forum topic, 1 or 2 people mentioned that SYYG happened to them during a match randomly.
There is no video showing the occurrence.
Well, I improved the first event by one or two frames, 7.26. I know that some person apparently got 7.25, but seriously, he must have gotten super lucky or had some different strategy. (or he was lying...lol)

I did a little testing with multiple versions of SSBM (as in version 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2) and found out some interesting things. When TASed this first event, I noticed that Bowser's invincibility frames last longer in 1.1 and 1.2 than 1.0. I happened to be using 1.0 for this TAS, and I'm guessing that's why I got a better time because of the version I was using. I havent tested out the Japanese version yet, but my guess is it's going to be the same as version 1.2. I wonder if this will make other event matches possible to have even better times?
Oh why didn't I think of it. The version differences can indeed be the cause for why we never got 7.25. Another difference I can think of is weight which differs between NTSC and PAL versions.
I never heard of a difference with the invincibility span though so that's interesting..
