Hi everyone, hope you're doing great ! Okay so it's my first post here, it may seem weird to you that I start this subject right away (maybe), but uh, I'm really motivated to make the Any% TAS for RE1 on the Gamecube. I didn't see a topic yet on the forum so... here we go. So I know the game, I like it and I love how it's built. I don't speedrun it, so if there's techniques that I should know of, that would help. That's why I make a topic here, I just can't do that alone ! :) I tried TASing just a bit to see if it desyncs or whatever, it seems fine for now; however, I tried to find some addresses with Cheat engine (something that could show me if I rub a wall and lose speed, or something like that), and I couldn't because this program is dumb... I'm not here to get my ass wrecked by great TASers overlords, I love everything you do, and I just want to get started :). Also, Jill ? Chris ? And, weapons ?... I think keeping the gun to rapid fire and "stealing" Barry's Colt will be faster, but I may be wrong. Thanks a lot ! Cosmic

To start, this is the fastest run I know of with Chris. Link to video I am willing to help with some parts of the TAS, although I know very little about the route used, or other strategies. The only tactic I know if is mashing B on stairs increases speed.

I already saw that video, the fact that it's with Chris bothers me a little :/ But yeah, this might be a good start. Thanks ! If you wanna try something in the meantime (getting the route etc.), I need to know if the plant skip (idk if it's called like that) that works on PS1 works on GC somehow.

Just as a reminder: * The current dolphin video dump in stock builds is utter garbage. You will get massive A/V desync. * This game uses DTK, so even the current hacked builds can't dump the music.

Oh thanks for bringing that up, DTK ? So nobody can have a stable and "complete" version of RE running to read the inputs for now ?

Disk TracK player. Kinda like CD Digital Audio.

It just means that further hacking of Dolphin would be required to successfully encode the run (not that big deal, considering that substantial hacking is already needed to encode any run).

A/V desync means that when you're playing the game it's fine, but if you make an encode of it (to upload to youtube for example) the audio and visuals will be out of sync. So you can start the TAS now and when you are done talk to someone about fixing Dolphin to be able to encode it.

Well I would be very interested in seeing a run of the REmake. What would be a good build to begin a TAS on? I assume some variation of 3.5 with TASing extras.

I would grab the latest mainline revision. But perhaps there are some mods one might want to port to it...

Well gotta say i'm pretty interested in seeing this game as a tas. If you speak french, I can link you to a video of a no-tas speed run, with commentary.

Well, just link it, why not :). If it's with Jill it's super nice ! Speaking about Dolphin, I'm working with 3.5-1817, 64bit. It was the latest 2 days ago ^^ I followed http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12484 for the settings.

It's the same as SoulCal up here, but commented. I already saw those :) EDIT : I'm currently watching carefully http://speeddemosarchive.com/ResidentEvilGC.html#JillSS, I'm writing down the route for now on google drive, I'll give you the link to a shared folder when it's ready.

This is the fastest run with Jill I can find, but it uses the rocket launcher. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gefNqyHYRJc

Okay what the hell, if Dolphin loads a savestate in RE zero and RE 1 the game starts to run at 15 fps constantly. It's a known problem, I hope they find a way to fix it soon; in the meanwhile, for some reason, I couldn't make it desync... Input files seem fine.

New update. I've been on the dogs fight to get the collar for a while now. Carcinogen suggested getting a Dagger to stab a dog, and, after testing, it really seems to be faster. BUT, I don't understand why rapid firing doesn't work. It's almost like the emulator is skipping frames (the most important ones obviously), and because of that I can't manipulate this fight. It's irritating.

I'll link Derrick (Magnum66) to this thread who did the 1:31 SS run with Chris. In fact the best segmented time is 1:29 from Davis but it was not entirely uploaded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCIAqMQhQHk A TAS should aim for a low 1:20 since loading times will be less. About the dog fight. I know one time Derrick was somehow able to manipulate the dogs so only one attacked and the other stayed still so you don't have to kill both.

About the runs : Trevor Seguin made a segmented run with Jill, you can find that on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3qXLfcvV1Y (1st part out of 10). I'm mostly referring to this run because it's pretty damn good, and it's with Jill :). So, for the run I'm ok. About the dogs, I managed to kill only the important one, but without rapid firing... I guess it can be several seconds faster, but I can't get why the glitch isn't working (and I tried A LOT). If someone wants to help out, this is the most important part. Why isn't rapid firing working on emulator everytime... Furthermore, on console, I almost managed to get the same skip as the PS1 TAS, what I like to call the Chemical skip. Some invisible wall stopped me though, and teleported Jill everytime I got close to the mask. How I did was : turn around, and get hit (Jill makes a few steps backwards when getting hit). At some point you'll get teleported, and I don't really know if there's the same problem on PS1, though. I'll have to investigate when I'll get there. For now, DOGS ! T_T
