Here's a better encode of the Prologue (widescreen, no dropped/duplicated frames, no graphical glitches): (removed, see fixed encode below) EDIT: So I messed up the 720p, and as a result, the run can only be viewed at a maximum of 480p, but before I reupload it, I was wondering if anyone besides MilesSMB on YouTube has a problem with the widescreen format. I just remembered how good it looked on the Twilight Princess WIP and decided to use it here, and it was also on the Dolphin Encoding Guide to enable Force 16:9.

That instruction only applies if 1. the game features a widescreen mode (i.e. it shows a wider area of a level without stretching the graphics artificially) and maybe 2. you're on Linux. Unfortunately I don't know if or how changing display aspect ratio in-game affects window size (and therefore capture size) on Windows. Also, the behavior on Linux when doing that might be different from window manager to window manager (mine does not allow window sizes to be changed by the application itself when a window already has been created).

I see what you're saying. It's bad because the screen is artifically stretched. Aren't most of the published GC and Wii runs dumped in widescreen though? The official YouTube encodes for these runs look like they Force 16:9 as well.

Official YT encodes? To me 4:3 looks more natural with this game and I'd prefer to publish it that way. Does the game have a widescreen option in options menu (like 007: Nightfire does)?

Only few GC games have widescreen compatibility. TTYD does not.

All right, I'll fix it then. Thanks for the quick comments. TheKDX7, we'll be using the tricks and glitches Cronikeys found starting in mid-Chapter 1. She's not contributing directly to the input, so she won't be listed as a co-author, but she will definitely be mentioned in the submission text.

Dolphin has a widescreen hack that makes games render at 16:9 (or any other AR) without stretching, but it doesn't work in every game.

Last time I checked, TTYD was one of the few games that worked really well with the widescreen hack, but this was before the hack was even part of Dolphin and I didn't do nearly enough testing.

Just thought I'd mention a couple things. Dolphin's loading speed is faster than console because in a comparison I did between the WR and the TAS, we actually are only 44 seconds ahead as opposed to 56 seconds. Also because school started we will be less active with this, but we'll still continue to make progress. Currently, we're trying to get HP Drain (item, not the badge) from the Blooper battle which can cut about 10 seconds from the Gold Fuzzy battle by Shwonk Fortress. Masterjun's also working on RNG further.

Can you only get certain items during certain battles from the audience? So from the Blooper fight you can get a HP Drain and only HP Drain, whilst say against a Dry Bones you can get X item and only X item? Or is more complicated than that? Also I heard about the Gold Fuzzy strat. Looking forward to see that one done.

I'm certain you can get more than 1 item from a specific battle...which would make it harder to get HP Drain.

Just a bit of an update: We've reached Hooktail's Castle. After experimenting with the staircase flip skip and key skip that Cronikeys posted earlier, I can officially say Goombella buffering in the star piece room to skip the key is about 1 second faster than the staircase flip skip, which is about 10 seconds faster than just flipping the staircase. It can only be done with a minimum of 5 buffers which does cost some time, but is still faster.

Wait....you guys are at the castle already? Does that mean you've managed to manipulate a battle item? :o Is it the same RNG for badge drops, btw?

We weren't able to manipulate the HP Drain without wasting a bunch of time (an hour or more? Something like that), so we just went our original (faster) route. We're at the paper plane flying into the castle right now.

As Kirby found out, it's faster to take the airplane to the door instead of landing on the bridge.

The cutscene/dialogue triggered by the red bones delayed the battle? I wonder if this could be applied elsewhere.

You misunderstood. No matter what you will twirl to the left like how I did, but doing this triggers the battle earlier so you don't need to hammer the dry bones to start the battle.

That's kinda what I meant. "Delaying" the battle as in you attacked the red bones, dialogue was triggered, then after it ends you immediately go into battle. If there was no cutscene/dialogue, the battle would've commenced immediately (but ofc, that isnt the case regardless for this fight since like you said, you'll always be pushed back first).

I see what you mean now. Yeah, no matter what you can't go straight into battle with the Red Bones.

Nice! I got 2 questions. How do you manipulate luck? Also, would it be faster to get the first castle key to use it to skip the Ms. Mowz dialogue?
