There's probably a lot of cards that aren't necessary, I'd be curious what it ends up doing to your Spirit damage in the final fights. I feel like you could manipulate a lot more ATback too.

zaygos' attacks are very unpredictable. SOmetimes, he does hit me, but the next round I can't cast spirit. Or he kills one of the mercenaries http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/222822595/Paladin%27s%20Quest%20%28U%29.smv i don't need all that equipment, after all. I will try not to get the cards in the past, now

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/915834669/Paladin%27s%20Quest%20%28U%29.smv saved another 5k frames by not using the cards. Let's try to backtrack some more to avoid fights...

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/952004931/Paladin%27s%20Quest%20%28U%29.smv this, I believe, the best I can do. I didn't fight after the noi green parade, and I was still able to freeze admiral alon in reyiold

Has anyone ever seen this video? Link to video In a nutshell, Zaygos & Kaymat were defeated without using SPIRIT by having everyone cast ATback at the beginning of the round. Comparing both runs together, the final two fights here lasted a total of (roughly) 6:23 compared to 7:28 for Janus. The party in the video included: Chezni Midia FastJo Lillie* *Hiring her requires you to give her one of every item in Roki's Armory, costing a total of 34,500G. I'm not sure if the costs here could be "canceled out" with a faster boss fight, though. Potential cost issues aside, would optimizing this strategy (and obviously including attacks) save considerable time on Janus's run? This is just a suggestion for Janus. I have no plans of trying to improve the run, myself.

I would have to look at how to get those mercenaries AND the money for Lillie. I might consider it

It also seems notable that if the breaking strategy is ATBack, you don't need to spend a ton of time collecting cards.

True. However, if I remember correctly, Fastjo has very weak defense; could he survive long enough?

I decided to dig in the thread and found people talking about RAM. I finally got to understand the basics. It seems to be pre-determined when stepping somewhere with enemies (it was always 13 when I first get in the Tower of Gabnid). And for some reason, everything resets (the magic RAM) when I fight the goblins...

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/967620244/Paladin%27s%20Quest%20%28U%29.smv Saved about 600 frames after saving Midia. Although the fighting address isn't all that useful (I lose more frames than I save them), I do use the ones for magic. I think I won't pursue card treasures and will instead go for dropping

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1005240083/Paladin%27s%20Quest%20%28U%29.smv Now nearly 3300 frames ahead after Hagubo, and my levels are even higher! I might have uncovered a secret: when changing screens and the battle counter is at 0, it resets (it happened when going in the 2nd part of the cave with Smash). I will try to exploit that on the rerun

I like the progress being made! I will endeavor to follow along with the WIP here as well as proofreading the PS4 run when I get some more time, hopefully I can be of some use here :)

Measurements are a little imprecise, this is my first time actually TASing to test: Fritz/Goblin fight: Fritz's attack ~116 frames Fritz Defending: 0 frames Goblin's attack ~108 frames FireG animation on one creature ~70 frames Your current run's plan: Fritz Defend - 0 Chezni FireG - 210 3x Goblin attack - 324 Chezni FireG - 210 battle over = 744 nonobligatory frames I think you can change to this instead: Fritz Attack - 116 Chezni FireG - 210, kills one goblin 2x Goblin Attack - 216 Chezni FireG - 140 =682 This definitely saves some frames but also may leave you with less HP, since you're manipulating differently and Fritz isn't defending. Looks like you don't have a ton of ChezniHP to spare either in the current plan of using MiniBl twice before Alornso - using it a third time would almost certainly eliminate these 60 frames, so that's a bad idea. Is it to your advantage to have Fritz die earlier in the Alornso battle?

Is the reentering of the cave around frame 120000 on your latest run avoiding a battle?

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1575254549/Paladin%27s%20Quest%20%28U%29.smv Now a 17k frames advantage after landing in Saskuot. I fought less, but the magic is much stronger thanks to those cards. Tristal: - I guess I didn't look carefully enough into the strategy. I was going to redo the run anyway, as I've discovered another trick: A and X work the same to open the menu. So when A has been used, X makes the command quicker - You're talking about descending under Hagubo? Then yes, it was probably to avoid more fights. I did the same in the Jurayn Tower (walking around the stairs)

Another thing to maybe watch out for is you probably don't need Midia to survive all that much, though it's somewhat annoying that she doesn't stay dead after battle.

It seems strange to alternate between Blowup and FireG in the Skeleton Cave, any particular reason for it?

I used blowup only once because it misses too often. And I disagree with Midia. Her paraknife is very useful
