GoodGen 3.00 shows Langrisser II (J) (REV00) [!], Langrisser II (J) (REV01), and Langrisser II (J) (REV02) [!]... so if you don't have a perfect version, you're not looking very hard, it seems.

Sorry...My english is not so good. "not perfect" means that when I have beaten the last boss. The end is not translated. Therefore it also means the English translation is not perfect.

I've never played the Genesis version of this game, but there seems to be a somewhat newer (8/13/08) and better patch here: Langrisser II English Translation Patch by M.I.J.E.T..
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

Hello everyone, After recently completing my run of Warsong, I've decided to plan the beginning stages of its sequel, Langrisser 2. By large, it's a superior and very worthy sequel in terms of better graphics, musical score, and storyline development. Another attractive feature within this game is the fact that BATTLES CAN BE TURNED OFF, promising a much shorter run time than its predecessor. With that in mind, I would like to get some feedback from the community on the type of run that will be made. All in all, Langrisser 2 is composed of 27 normal Scenarios along with 4 'Secret' Scenarios (3 of which are playable in this run), which can accessed by fulfilling certain conditions during a particular stage. However, the 4th 'Secret' Scenario is a bit of an anomaly as the conditions to reach it are both dubious and out of the question for this playthrough. Also, the enemies are INSANELY overpowered. So, how does a run completing all 30 playable stages (27 normal, 3 'secret') sound?

Instead of using an english fan translation, you could run it in japanese and use captions to explain what's going on. As for Secret 4 - Is it possible to reach this stage in a normal run (= without, after beating the game, going to level select and selecting it) by any no means? If it is possible at all you should do it. Otherwise forgoing it is fine.

I've never been able to reach it normally (it's activated during Scenario 26). Supposedly though, the conditions needed to get there are rather extreme and not feasible for a TAS. (from TheStarbird's guide on GameFaqs) "NOTE: I'm not sure, but I have heard that Eggbert will challenge you to the Death Tower (scenario ?4) if everyone is at the 10th level of their 5th class. Though I haven't verified that yet, but if you accept his challenge, make sure you have a LOT of attack power as well as defense. Multiple Runestoning Elwin in the game helps majorly. If Elwin's stats are NOT at LEAST around 80 for AT and DF, then do NOT do this challenge."

I could. It would be more convenient if a fan translation were allowed, though.

I believe the rule on fan translations is meant to keep runners from using outdated translations for their runs. If there is a good translation of Langrisser 2, and it's ostensibly complete, then it would probably be worth asking for permission.

Honestly, it's one of the best complete translations that I've come across. It was made by a group called M.I.J.E.T. that specializes in Sega Genesis English translations. Here's a link to their Langrisser 2 page (with screenshots). The most recent patch update occurred in July of 2011: http://mijet.eludevisibility.org/Langrisser%20II/LangrisserII.html Do you know who I should contact here to ask for permission?

Hmm. Looking at a Japanese strat site, that info doesn't seem to match up. The conditions listed there are as follows: 2周目で1~27面と?1~?3面をクリアし、指揮官全員が敗北回数0で26面をクリア。 Something along the lines of this: "Clear Scenarios 1-27 and ?1-?3 in the second round, and clear Scenario 26 with all of your Commanders having zero defeats." By "second round", it's also possible they mean "second playthrough"... not sure how this game works in regards to that. I guess that also means your commanders can't ever perish? Not sure of the accuracy of this data, either, but it's something to test out.

Hmmm... On that, I would assume that they are referring to "second playthrough" as it would be impossible to complete every stage by the 2nd round. Scenario 2, alone, takes multiple rounds to finish as its victory condition depends upon an A.I.-controlled Riana to race to the top of the map. No commander deaths sounds feasible, though. Your understanding of Japanese appears to be much more advanced than mine. Do you know of any other websites that may have more info? Also, do you think anyone in the Japanese forums could have any information?

I tried to follow a few other links to FAQs for this game, but so far they've just led me back to the same page I got the info above (link here). There may be some Japanese forums out there for this game, but I don't know. You make a good point, I don't think it could hurt to ask some of the bilingual folks in the Japanese language forum here, they may have go-to resources for this kind of thing.

Yes, it's second playthrough, not second turn. The same term (2周目) is used for games that have a loop, i.e. after completing the last stage restart from the first stage with higher difficulty. Either way, the conditions are such that I wouldn't worry about ?4 in a TAS, looking forward to seeing how your run goes :)

Probably your best bet would be one of the site admins, Nach or adelikat. More likely adelikat; Nach seems to focus more on the technicalities of keeping the site running, while adelikat focuses on the content. EDIT: I would also suggest asking MIJET themselves if they'd object for any reason. But that's me.

Thanks, Prion! I'm going to begin work on it after I get my caption commentary done for the Warsong run.

Awesome, I'll get into contact with Adelikat this weekend and see what he thinks. I also checked MIJET's website for contact information. They've got an email, but they also advise that it may take weeks to get a response back. Crazy. I'll have to see how that one goes.

You don't really need permission from the translators to do a run of the translation. Even if you could get into ?4, it's not like it would be possible to complete it. Bernhardt has what, 90/90 stats or something? You'd have to excessively grind using the stage skip cheat.

You're right in that Bernhardt (and EVERYONE else in that place) has outrageously insane stats. Back in the day, I think I used at least 3 runestones on Elwin (plus Langrisser, Assault Suit, etc.). However...I got some ideas floating around on how to beat it, TAS-style. Along with standard luck manipulation, the stage itself isn't too stable (I recall a bugged Demonlord unit that would occasionally turncoat and attack Bernhardt). If I can put all of these pieces together, it'd turn out to be a pretty entertaining stage!

Bozel and Bernhardt fight each other in ?4. Possibly because of that whole betrayed him thing in a previous stage. Problem is the generals up to Bernhardt all have absurd magic defence so you can't even cast Decline and then spam meteor, blast or earthquake. Has it been established how you get into ?4 anyway? Isn't part of the requirement that you have all characters at capped secret levels? That's unlikely enough in a normal run. In a TAS I imagine only one or two characters would even get to their secret classes. I suppose a speed run would be the only time rangers/high masters are actually worthwhile. But they probably still suck.

Hmmm...I didn't take into account magic defense. That would make putting a game plan together more challenging. Still haven't exactly figured out how to enter S?4. AmaizumiUni over on the Japanese forum (I believe) said that he/she would look into it. Otherwise, I'm planning to go forward with a full run that excludes this stage, for the time being. I'm currently in the process of finishing Scenario 1. For one, this game is FAST and having battles turned off will make things far quicker than they were in Warsong. In determining battle outcomes, 'Player' phase RNGs are similar, while 'Enemy' phase RNGs appear to be far less manipulable (at least in regards to what I'm used to). I should have a WIP up here within the next few days.

Only one question: Does the translation run on real hardware without glitching up the game?

I'm sorry, are you asking if it's capable of running on an actual Genesis console? I'm assuming it can, and have heard of cases where altered ROMs were successfully placed back onto a cartridge format. I can only say with certainty that it plays on the Gens emulator completely glitch-free. I've played it in it's entirety in the past. There's also a full 'Let's Play' on YouTube which uses the new translation: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA12ADD376ACCE3E0

You could try playing it back on an accuracy-focused genesis emulator such as Regen. http://segaretro.org/Regen

That's exactly my question. Because translation hacks that breaks the games ability to run on a real console should in my opinion not be accepted as it would then abuse emulator bugs to work. Regen is also closed source, no one knows how the "accuracy" is achieved except for the developer, I wouldn't trust that emulator too much.
