Catching a sandbear shouldn't take long.
1) Use the airship, go to the desert
2) manipulate, if you can, a battle with sandbear
3) deathclaw + capture
4) run if necessary
5) repeat 2-4 if necessary
6) heal yourself, continue with the game
Just how long would that take?

The problem is finding a route in the quicksand that sets off three sandbear battles and gets you out in time. I wouldn't be surprised if four minutes were lost in doing this. That's still a lot less time than the other method.

If you haven't already found a way to kill ArcheoAvis, i think i have nice idea: use BlowFish (which can be learned from Lamia) seven times to kill it since it hases 6400 HP and BlowFish does 1000 dmg with each hit. And the second form (2500 HP) will be very easy since you can use L5 Doom on it.
Ever heard of sarcasm? I wasn't taking the 13 years literally. I'm just trying to figure things out like everyone else.
Also, I would say that I spend about 20 minutes leveling. What would be the plan to kill all of the cannons in Lonka?
Currently I'm thinking of getting the sandbears during the unavoidable trip through the desert (after the battle with the worm), not by coming back later.
Do Lamia need to be controlled in order to get 1000 Needles? Control would cost 60 AP. And anyway it would take 8 hits, not 7, to kill Archaeoavis (damage doesn't overflow from form to form; he take 1600, then transforms secretly). And anyway it takes 25 MP per cast, and MP is pretty rare. (but 4 casts can be replaced with 2 casts of Death Claw so it's not really that much).
..and yes, "level up until you can take the main attack of the Chimera" would take a long time, as it does like 500~1000 group damage last I checked.
Currently the best idea I have for the cannons is many, many 雷神の術. It will take a long time compared to other bosses but not terribly long. Lightning Rods would be a more expensive alternative that might be workable, but buying them somewhere would also need to be factored in.

The torrent just brings me to the main page of the site. I tried downloading and then opening in multiple BT clients and it gives errors, saying it's binded to HTML or something.
To defeat the Sand Worm, you just need to use some Water Techs, they are cheap so there's no prob buying them...
Is money really needed, then you can use the Steal bug & sell the items stoled...
For Archeoavis, you can either try breaking different rods or use Terrain, but maybe getting some Sand Bears or using 1000 Needles may be faster...

I just watched your speedrun from the AVI file (created by Bisqwit) and whoa, that's amazing! :)
I definitely couldn't have done it better myself but I did find some minor mistakes you made:
10:15 The first battle in the cave: you shouldn't have attacked the last bat with Lenna since Bartz would have killed it with single hit.
17:30 You stop walking without any reason for very short period.
21:20 Why did you change Bartz's job when you didn't need Blue Mage's abilities with him? You could have just kept him as Bare.
34:14 You take a miss step.
34:22 You stop walking for a very short period.
43:51 You open menu for no reason.
If it's still possible to fix these, you'd propably get few seconds better time.
I (and many others) are eagerly waiting for this to get completed. Please don't keep us awfully long in agony and finish it soon ;)

samurai goroh: the easiest way to kill the Sandworm in the Desert of Sand Tides is to simply cast one AquaRake (which can be learned from Quadraharpy in the small desert before Library of Ancients) and he's wasted.
I somehow suspect that Maza's findings are not really mistakes. Eagerly waiting for explanations :)
Edit: no, they do look like mistakes for most part... Well, it's not the end of the world. :)

10:15 - Issue has been addressed. Instead, I believe a goblin monster party will be fought outside of Tule, which is also the new location in which to learn Goblin Punch.
17:30 - Possibly a small mistake that's not really worth fixing -- this is only a test run, afterall.
You missed the fact that 17:30 is taking a pretty HUGE detour with two extra random encounters. :) This has also been logged.
21:20 - Blue Mage was needed to learn Goburinu Panchi (am I spelling that right?)
34:14 - Either (experimental) luck manipulation, or same as 17:30.
34:22 - Same as 17:30.
43:51 - Same as 17:30.
This run is only to set out the route. Version 2 will fix these problems.
Already on the "mistakes" list.
I'm not too worried about stuff like this because this isn't a final version anyway.
Didn't know who Goblin Punch would hit.
I think this is to make sure I can run from Garkimasra.
This video is just a path with "optimal" strategies, so someone can later do it correctly with this proving that each strategy works and how to do it effectively. It looks nice, sure, but it's not a final version (initially because w1 stuff might affect w2 stuff &c, but now because there's EXP-gain mistakes and the like).
I am right now doing the Ancient Library stuff, so expect a small 2-boss update within a few hours.

I'd however like everyone to consider that given how long task it is to create that FF5 movie (probably even when properly planned), there's a chance that nobody will take the task and this will be the only FF5 TAS made.
I am considering this as an official movie even though it really is a demonstration.
(Same goes for Chrono Trigger, FF6 and other RPGs authors are working to plan out.)
You already have the strats for the ancient library and a few other places. Even though mine is for myself I have come across good ideas later on in the first world. I've followed what gamefaqs.com have said when it comes to low levels and the boss guide. I'm not going for a low level 2/2/2/3...but I am relatively low for where I'm at in the game.
I used only thunder rods for the cannons. When you go against the boss you have to do L5 Death and then make everyone skip a turn and then come back with thunder rods. If you immediately use them instead of skipping a turn they do about half as much damage. 1200-1500 instead of 2500-2600. For the next boss I just did a combination of rods...back and forth. I'm sure that captured sandbears is faster, but I'm doing more of a practical run...so at this point I have only about 200 rerecords. I didn't want to have to replay a section 50 times to get past it at 2/2/2/3...so I leveled up my characters more.
If you redo the run after the demonstration is done be careful with the fire ship and iron claw. There are fights that aren't random that can obliterate you after the fire ship. Have a save state before the ship and see if you have the battles. If you do then you'll need to buy a few extra rods. I had to completely redo my run twice because of the extra battles. Boko was lucky and didn't get any of them. I also got lucky in my latest incarnation and I didn't get them either.
Lucky? I have no idea what you're talking about.
Anyway, Mid is rescued at 69 minutes (and 2 seconds because I wasn't paying attention to the frame counter):
http://www.geocities.com/boco_xlvii/ff5movie.zip
Ifrit takes 4 actions (2 guards, 2 rods). Learning L5 Death (from the unavoidable battle) takes 5 (guard, Death Claw, fight, Death Claw, fight), then revive Faris + switch Jobs, Byblos goes down in three (guard-DeathClaw-fight).
