With all the glitch and known tricks so far and that with the precision of the TAS doubtless 1:45.xx in my opinion. Even less.

Somebody knows why no speed runner (AnatomyZ, Iateyourpie, Almo) does not use this glitch in their speed run? To go up the hill having "obtained" the star spirits star it would be faster than to rise normally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqYaZBBdIek&feature=c4-overview&list=UUgf5guDsWVNiZl9eKwwzxgg

A TAS might save some frames with that IDK, but it doesn't save time really.

I found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXFZCoytiVQ which is probably not useful in a tas though.

Maybe in a TAS 100% that includes all the recipes.

Wouldn't this be useful for things like duping fright jars, fire flowers, or thunder rage? That way we wouldn't have to spend so much time collecting coins to buy fright jars, and make some battles faster with attack items.

From what I can see, you need to be able to eat to be able to duplicate.

You don't need to eat the item you want to duplicate, you just need to be able to eat a different item. The item you want to duplicate is just thrown away (and picked back up), but doesn't actually get removed from your inventory. Plus, you need an item that would exceed your inventory space.

I'm pretty sure the letters are kept in a separate, 'Important' inventory and so can't be duplicated through this method.

This is a cool find, nice work! I think Twisted Eye is right. It looks like you can only duplicate items from your regular inventory, that you can drop and pick back up (you can't do that with Star Pieces and letters).

Couldn't it be useful for fast money farming if done with a valuable item?
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

I can't see the any% tas wanting to dupe anything. You have to eat an item so that alone probably makes it take too long. In a 100% paper mario category (whatever that is), you would probably want to duplicate Jelly Ultras for coins in real time, but I feel like a tas would still rather use Jump Attack, but you're right about the recipes. I'm sure there are some items you would rather dupe that pick up, in particular, the Ultra Shroom in the desert where you have to hit a block 100 times, and also probably the Jammin' Jelly that you get as Peach (both of those items are needed to get all the recipes unless you want to backtrack out of Chapter 8 or farm lil' oinks). I wanted to say, in case some people didn't know from before, that it is possible to duplicate Letters for Starpieces, but first you have to overflow your Key Item inventory to get them into your normal inventory (which first requires amassing 32 Key Items), and after you do so it's faster to keep using Key Item Overflow to dupe than to use this method. It's probably faster than Quizmo and Koopakoot for tas (tas can manipulate Quizmo to appear everywhere, though), but who even knows if that's allowed or not in a tas 100% category that I would rather not ever discuss about the existence of.
