Remember This TAS?
Well I do... because I used the wrong bios and now it's time to do it all again.

The Stuff:

  • Bios: SCPH1000 (NTSC-J bios)
  • Hardest Difficulty
  • Goes for in-game time
  • Aims for maximum score
  • VAULT BABY!

00085FBC (2bytes) was used to figure out how long each level took, be mindful as it carries over depending on the level.

Time Progress:

This TAS took a longer time to complete I created 12 versions (4 were pretty much the same so I'm not counting them). Out of the 12 versions this was the fastest one for in-game time.

Your start is slow when changing to Hard.

It is... and isn't. In order to get the best round I have to wait 16 frames in order playing so I use the most unoptimal button presses then continue in to the TAS.

You have slower rounds than the previous TAS. NO VOTE.

This is true, but like the previous TAS that had slower rounds to the full TAS which was made and the 6th and 7th levels had the most optimal input yet both gain time.

Car Level:

The car level is now more optimized, I am unable to optimize this any further unless I switch difficulties from Hard to Normal but this TAS is built for HARD.

Previous TASes:

[dead link removed] European Version with an ingame time of 101.34 (4:55) on Normal Difficulty.
Japanese Version with an ingame time of 92.38 (5:10) on Normal Difficulty.
Japanese Version with an ingame time of 90.69 (5:13) on Hard Difficulty.
This uses the Japanese Version and has an ingame time of 90.67 (5:11) on Hard Difficulty.

My vote is Meh, I don't know how to make it entertaining so I attempted in the only level I could and that's that.

feos: Fixing the movie header, and also judging...
feos: Accepting as an improvement to the existing run and publishing...

Alright then. It's certainly a surprising game, given all the different cartoon-y things, and the run is pretty short. I could see people giving it reasonable votes for entertainment for that reason. I'm going with Meh, myself. I did like seeing the antics in the car chase autoscroller. The other car level didn't look as good, but you commented on why that was. I'll believe you did the best you could there. My recommendation for screenshot is probably the robot character (sort of like Great Mazinger) striking a pose on the roof after the building-climb minigame.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! Just curious, is "Maximum score" really needed in the branch name? I thought the fact that it's a vault run already means it's the fastest branch, so unless a non-max score run was submitted that ended up being faster does that mean the branch should be removed?

jlun2: Well, going for maximum score will make the run slower. I'm pretty sure we don't need another submission to know that. By including maximum score in the branch, we're (a) being more clear about the goals of the branch (since changing those goals can make the run faster), and (b) setting expectations about what we hope to see in an attempt at obsoletion. A new submission which only goes faster because it gets a worse score would not be viewed favorably.

It's less levels... so yes. Also if it was just Time Trial the TAS it would become less than 5minutes. It would ignore the 2 longest levels "Mega Speed Race" and "Race or Fall" and fail the both of them.

Wait, so does max score make is slower or faster?

Slower. But in-game time, faster. max score + time trial: end it as fast as possible time trial: force everyone to wait for about 1 minute for it to end.

Wait, then this isn't legible for vault then. A TAS that doesn't get max score would acheive a faster real time, so why is this accepted to vault?

So it's the fastest? Well, why does it need a max score branch then if based on the comments, it doesn't seem like a non-max score would be faster (nor more entertaining)?

This is getting annoying because we're in a loop right now, you do realize that?

Anyways, this is my last comment on it. I need to be elsewhere for 1.5 days so yea.

For vault, wouldn't it be like: Max-score = 100%? Personally, I think it would be a good idea to handle it this way, so even boring but technically interesting highscore-TASes can be published.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

andypanther was speaking in favor of your run, you know. And I do like that solution. But really, this is a moot issue. This is the only kind of run that would be worthwhile for this game. It shows the hardest difficulty and the greatest skill. This is also better than the previous run was. I figure it shouldn't be a real issue to accept this for at least Vault tier.
