Before you get to iron claw...there's the room with 2 places to go for some chests. Well, I'm talking about the room before that. There's sometimes only one fight...sometimes two...sometimes none and they are the equivalent of the boss fight...only without the general changing forms.

Those fights are normal encounters, and they're not that difficult to win. But maybe Boco manipulated luck to not have them, too?
EDIT: just saw the new WIP. I like how you learnt Lv. 5 death. Everything worked exactly the way you planned it. :)
It's not manipulating luck. I replayed that section at least a hundred times and the fights would still happen. However, if I restarted before the fire ship the fights would be different or not there at all.
..after many, many rerecords. I had to do the whole battle 3 or 4 times because I couldn't find a frame that made both Death Claws work -and- have the Page 64 cast L5 Death, and even then I tested 20-30 frames for each battle before I got one that worked out correctly.
Unfortunately, no amount of rerecording (delays before entering battle, that is) I could do could make Byblos use Magic Hammer on Butz instead of using Webs on Faris. If that had happened the fight would be about half as long. If there's absolutely anything I'd love for someone to be able to do it's to concentrate on those 2 or 3 seconds before Byblos and figure out how to make him do that... but this isn't a complete run so it's not important. But that's how the battle should go for the final version - he should use Magic Hammer on someone who's alive and isn't acting first, and the person acting first should have enough MP to use Death Claw.

Here's an updated one for the updated WIP!
http://tracker.tasvideos.org/ff5-wip-69min-boco.avi.torrent (50 MB)
It's again encoded in very low settings: 74 kbit/s x264 (126 kbit/s if you ignore dropped frames) + 9 kbit/s aac (not mp3).
The video quality is better than last time, but audio is more heavily compressed using a different codec.
Edit: Indeed, yet another codec. Audio codec used was (F)AAC. Can anyone report on how to get it working in Windows?

So Boco, how far are you actually?
And btw, i found a major mistake in your TAS. There's a wall which you could walk through but you didn't and this could have saved _a lot_ of time. It's in the Wind Shrine, in the same screen as the boss. Here's a pic of it: http://koti.mbnet.fi/maza-/pics/FF5.png
Yes, that wall is in the big list-o-mistakes. As long as we can make such a list, the next time someone makes this movie it'll not have them.
I have some unexpected free time oday and tomorrow which I'll use to do laundry and play Rockman X Command Mission. But I'll try to work up until Sandworm in FF5 as well, which will include quite a few things. I'm stopping right after I kill the Sandworm though, as I don't want to figure out the quickest route through the desert right now (anyone who knows it and the quickest route through the Lonka ruins is welcome to post it or continue the movie past there to demonstrate). So that movie should be up by sometime tomorrow night.

If I'm not remembering it entirely wrong I think the Lonka ruins is very straight forward. So if you don't take any detours to get items I think there is only one way through the ruins. Good luck!
Err, not the flying fortress but the place with King Tycoon... I don't know the quickest route to trigger all his appearances and let me continue into Catapult.

She was asking for the desert part, since the quicksand will move you around... I think it would be useful to find a snap of that area & then search for the fastest route...

Hi Boco! I started makeing a map of the Desert of Sand Tides for you ;)
It's still pretty incomplete but here you can see my progress: http://koti.mbnet.fi/maza-/Pics/FF5-Desert_incomplete.JPG
The quality is pretty high so you can zoom it to see it more accurately.
And in the and i intend to mark which way is each sandwave going so you can see it easily wich is the fastest way.
While I adventured there, I noticed that approximately one third of the battles hases Sand Bear in it so it won't be hard to find 'em if you're going to catch those.
EDIT: I have updated the map (the ULR is still the same). Now it should have every square you are able to step on. I'll do the directions of the tides tomorrow or day after that if it doesn't matter you, Boco.
EDIT2: I have deleted the picture so it's no use clicking the url

Ah =/ Sorry, I missunderstood it. But hmm, now I remember a part where you have to chase the king, was it that part you were refering too? I think he appears at fixed places so you only need to find where he goes too and then chase after him a few times. Eventually you will catch him (or whatever happens, I don't remember this part that good).
I remember more or less that part, you have to look for him 3 times. If I'm not mistaken, for the 1st one look to the right; for the 2nd one, to the upper right; & at last, in the upper middle... If you don't see the 3 parts, then you can't continue.
Edit: I just checked it out, 1st you need to go straight to the stairs & you'll see the king running to the right, go to the bottom right room & you'll see him running again, just go again up where the stairs are & he'll be there standing...
Ah..~~ delay that by a day. I got carried away in Command Mission and finished the game.. then got the Ultimate Armor and some Supra fragments, and then, and then, and then...... and then it was waay too late to do FF5! So I'll do it tomorrow.
Maza,
Thanks very much for the quicksand map! I thnk you're right, that once all the directions are on it it'll be easy to see which way is the fastest.

I read some where that you can defeat Titan in one hit with some sort of death blade. The translation of it in my game is DoomCut. However, after I tried this probably about 50 times it never succeeded in killing Titan in one hit. I had gone to Crescent Island to get it, hoping that it would work. Thankfully the Dragoon's Jump! ability worked well...just had to get it to work right and I eventually did.

I thought of helping too.

(1 MB animated GIF with clones of Galuf going everywhere around)
I recommend the second one. I tried to cover every corner of the map but it's not complete.
Edit: Third one, without animation, without Galufs. 64 kB.

I did them by activating two PAR cheat codes to prevent random battles (7E16A901 and 7E0B4F42) and then creating a SMV that simply consists of Galuf going where no man has gone before.
I accidentally also used the 7E0BBC00 code which disabled Galuf's walking animation, making him always appear facing north except when taken by the currents.
If you want other maps, I can make them rather easily with the same method.

Now that you mention about codes, would it be valid to use a code to disable randomn battles in order to make this video faster? I know that you can skip most battles by just running from them, but the animation takes some time, making the video longer. I know I'm not the one making the video, but if it comes out I will surely download it ASAP, that if I can store the avi file in my drive...
Maybe not abusing of such code, but enable it from time to time in order to look lucky by skipping long distances :)
Euh, I should stop setting deadlines. I got the Fire Ship only just now, so that means 1) get Black Shock, 2) get Black Chokobo, 3) go to Lix, 4) buy Jutsu, 5) return to Library, 6) kill Sandworm, before I feel justified in posting it. .....I shouldn't be doing anything Thursday? maybe? Or definitely over the weekend.

No. Codes are literally the same thing as hacks -- they modify the game code, making it a new and different game.
Because there are an infinite number of ways a game can be modified, it is easiest to forbid all hacks. Easier than to decide which hacks to allow and which not.
