I have tried screen capturing videos of NES movies and they work fine. I try doing the same thing with ZSNES movies and they fumble around. I have a fast computer, (P4 2.56 ghz, 128mb geforce 4 4400, gig of RAM) and this still happens. Do any of you know of any way to get a zsnes movie to avi or mpeg? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Well, you could always try capturing with Fraps. I'm not really sure if it works with an emulator, but maybe it's worth a shot?

Zsnes lags too much when Fraps is used.I think Camtasia studio is the good choice.

And now you want to share your solution?

alright, I have the exact same problem recording on ZSNES: it lags too much while recording (I'm using Camtasia). Since Stygian8Angel didn't share his solution, does anyone else have any ideas?

I haven't tried with zsnes, but with both MAME and WinKawaks (arcade emu's). Both work ok, but when the emu starts to put more load on, camtasia just lowers the fps (using the standard codec) which results in extremely choppy movies. Using either DivX or VidX resulted in incredible lag, sometimes even crashing camtasia and always producing movies at just a few frames per second. While using no codec at all, the movie became a bit better, though still far too choppy and growing very rapidly. My conclusion is that camtasia is just not suitable for the task (at least at this point in time). It's really aimed at instructional videos with little movement I think. What's the program Bisqwit uses? You could always record it under linux if the program Bisqwit uses works better.

Camtasia worked perfectly when I tried recording an NES movie. I've tried other screen record programs, like Camstudio, but they've produced similar results. Reducing the ZSNES window size, or framerate of the capture, seems to help a little but isn't a practical solution. I'll mess around with it a little more, hopefully something works out.

Someone went ahead and took the movie recording code from VBA, modified it a bit and sent it to _Demo_. _Demo_ sent it to pagefault who modified it a bit, and now has ZMV->AVI. Read more about it on the ZSNES Board.
