Back in 2013 (or 2012) I posted about TASing Half Life 2 with Source engine's host_timescale command, then I realized, there are other games that run on the Source Engine and they use the same command! So when I installed Garry's Mod I decided to test-TAS a game in FlatGrass, just to see if it would work, and it did!
One teeny tiny problem; Garry's Mod is a sandbox game, and doesn't have a campaign mode. BUT....through the use of user-generated maps, your imagination and a bit of hand-eye coordination, you could set up your own goals and TAS race to complete them. Kind of like the Mario hacks popping up everywhere on the internet.
Here are some examples of TAS goals you could do that I thought up
- Ball Hunt: Race to find X amount of Bouncy Ball entities in as little time possible
- Hoard: Try to survive a hoard of enemies you place around the map (NOTE: they have to be placed so that the hoard is difficult)
- Prop Hell/NPC Hell: Prop Hell; Props are placed around the map as an obstacle course with a specific goal at the end. Goal: Play through the course and achieve said goal. NPC Hell: Everyone's trying to kill you. The end.
- Loan Shark: In an RP map (or at least something like gm_bigcity) innocent, harmless NPCs are placed in areas you define. They owe you money and they refuse to pay. When you place yourself at whatever starting point, you must equip a pistol, locate them and kill them all. Dialogue optional.
- Build Attack: Race to build something as fast as possible.
- Time Attack X: Similar to Prop Hell....except you are not allowed to use weapons!
- Hoverboard It: Using Robtoboy85's Hoverboards mod, skate on a hoverboard to a predefined goal. Tricks optional.
- Playaround: Self explanatory; do what TASvideos is famous for: messing around with glitches and stuff.
These are just ideas but I think they'd be fun to watch. Eh, it's up to you guys though. What do you think?

I've decided to go through with my first ever submission to TASvideos. If you remember in my post about TASing Garry's Mod, I went over various goals and plots for TASing. Well, now I present to you, the first in a line of Garry's Mod TASes, GMod Insanity Reflex!
Clever name, might I say.
Here's how it will work; I figured I could submit it like any other TAS video, except with goals that I determine myself. For example, Fastest Antlion Guard Down, gm_bigcity Time Attack, Fastest makeshift car, or anything else that could be done fast. I call it Insanity Reflex because you move so quickly when played back at host_timescale 1 it looks like you're on crack cocaine, and the Reflex part refers to doing everything so fast.
To kickstart, I'll need some ideas. Anyone?

Why not do HL2 or lost coast (or portal?) or other real games made by the developer? Is there a technical limitation that GMod doesn't have, or you just like the idea of doing a GMod run (that's fine)?
You propose this as a hack similar to SMW hacks, which is fine by me, but I think the original game needs a run before hacks of the game are accepted. I'm not sure if that's a site rule, or just my opinion.
I don't think you can submit a TAS of Garry's Mod because it doesn't run in any TAS emulators yet. That shouldn't stop you from making it and having a blast making TASes, but, for example, a Doom TAS using the built-in demo recording and playback feature currently isn't allowed either.
It doesn't need a TAS emulator. I use host_timescale 0.1 to slow it down to slowmo, and record the demo with that. Then, before playback I host_timescale it back to 1.0 and then play it back, the end result is a small TAS!
Also, I'm not going to worry about submitting to the site itself just yet, what I think I'll do is upload a few test runs to YouTube and link you guys to them. Hope you don't suffer motion sickness :P

It's not an actual hack, it's a spin-off of Half Life 2 made by one of ValVe's developers, Garry Newman, based on Half Life 2's Source engine. It's a mod basically, but there are standalone versions of the game that don't require HL2 to run.

You're ignoring the statement and giving us true, yet still to the point false facts.
There is no way you can TAS Garry's Mod for TASVideos.
It's an open world sandbox with no story, mission objectives etc.
The same can be said about TF2 (to a degree).
You even proved it in the suggestions why this truly cannot work because it's stuff you have to do (as in setting it all up or getting the parts/mods).
I will repeat what I'm stating here:
THERE IS NO WAY A TAS OF GARRY'S MOD WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE.
The only thing that might be acceptable is a playround but even that has its limitations.
