since David is hard to find lately, I’ll post here I found a new… glitch, I suppose? with the game’s physics, and saved 2 frames in the basement room with the 2 pillars http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/709410531/newtrick.dsm it might be possible to save 2 more, and it should save 2 more with Mario aswell but I don’t know how to hex it together with the old WIP basically… midjump, if your speed is 0, the direction of movement is reset, and the speed value will become positive, this means that you can take pretty funny directions midjumps but also that you can keep forward momentum when landing from a backwards jump (as I do to save those 2 frames) a nice bonus to this is that speed limits are broken seemingly, as I do in that WIP with 100k+ speed from a SJ which normally caps at 63k (at least with Yoshi) vid that might show it better, because I suck at explaining: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fQV3uwSKJs

totally got me by surprise, but I’ve finally saved those 2 frames I’ve been going for in the basement pillars room! :D the key was redoing the swimming, I thought of trying to go straighter to jump out of the water 2 frames earlier, but even with my redoing I still jumped out on the same frame, I was some X pixels ahead of the old WIP but in a far more left position, I kept tying the old WIP until somehow I saw Yoshi enter the door 2 frames earlier! :D I still wonder whether that jump can be done 2 frames earlier, and whether my swimming technique is the best… http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/634517045/newtrick.dsm I might try more, going for the early jump and testing other swimming techniques to see if there’s a better one edit: couldn’t find any better swimming technique edit2: saving 4 frames with Mario with the new direction reset glitch, but we’re not satisfied and I have a new idea which might save more, if it doesn’t work we’ll try to save 6 and be happy with that I think edit3: we’re losing 4 frames with the new idea, but we haven’t done it properly yet… and it looks cooler so I want to make it save

We're almost done now. We already have a finished .dsm but we're still testing if some frames could still be saved. When we finish doing that we'll probably submit it.

Great! I'm looking forward to the submission.

We succeed at searching for improvements. We're changing the last part of BitS. In the moving platform part, there's a place where in SM64 they do a triple jump, then WallKick and they are able to reach the top part. In SM64DS it's not possible to do a triple jump there but the top part is reachable with a SlideKick+WallKick, wasn't easy to find because you must be at the edge of the platform and Slidekick must be accurate.

although he says we, I’ve only found one improvement lately… I’d like to be more involved in the finishing touches but I’ve been busy with other games :/

Link to video New BitS with 2 new skips. However at 0:28 I haven't been able to find a decent strat for that stair positioning. I can't even be sure if its possible to do something really fast though. And just after posting this, with the help of ALAKTORN I found a new strat after the first skip that might save more time. Now only the ending is left to be improved (hopefully we are able to). Edit: 33"93 is the new improvement Edit 2: New strat at the end + Ending improvement: 33"67 Link to video I'm happy with this now.

I do not know if you have already seen but near the 22nd minute it is possible to get through the ground to reach the door which is under the water, is it faster than in the current TAS? http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm8738229

I just got a glitch that would allow us to beat the current any% record. the catch is, I cheated a little, but my attempt should prove that it’s possible without cheats get hype edit: got it without cheats :) just a matter of optimizing it now, which is gonna be the hardest part…

it’s not exactly a “new” glitch, but if we can optimize it properly I think it’ll still look fresh and interesting, not to mention the route is surprisingly different now. me and David tried this exact same glitch like a few months after we made our current any% record, we just were never able to achieve it… and in fact, I’m reusing that same old file now that I got the glitch

We can say it's a little bit thanks to me lol, since I reminded ALAKTORN after a year, and I watched the route. It's just awesome. I'm trying to improve BitS

finally got what seems to be an optimized glitch now to TAS into the unknown… might need some troublesome texture hacking… full TAS should be ready within early May unless something goes wrong edit: texture hacking was simple enough but damn if it’s hard to TAS this part…

09:04.53 current time (cut 00:46.42) I’ve come to dislike TASing this game though, everything feels improvable and David even forgot how to make the glitchy longjumps that save so much time I guess we’ll eventually submit an 8′ but I don’t know if I’ll ever be satisfied with the run

like I said earlier we’ve always known about it, and it’s something you can theorize from watching our published TAS, but we just never were able to achieve it before now @got4n: what 4 frames trick? David is trying to understand the glitchy LJs again but we still haven’t figured them out…

Well, dunno you told me using stylus makes a 4frames gain :p

that’s not a trick, it’s just a fact that the stylus is more precise yesterday David saved like 23 frames over an attempt where he was already saving compared to the published TAS today I saved 4 frames in a certain room but it should be possible to save at least 8 and maybe more, there are still lots of parts that are probably improvable… we’re working on it every day

^no, and he’s done with that now 09:01.47 current time (cut 00:49.48) we reviewed my 4-frame improvement and (mostly David) bumped it to 22 frames, I tried to save 2 more but after a while I got way too annoyed with this stupid game and hexed the whole run together instead I think we’ll still try to get those 2 frames though then there are loads other things to improve to be honest this sub is taking more work than previously thought, I hope we get it edit: 09:01.00 current time (cut 00:49.94)
