Any progress so far?

I redid the run from the battle in Viridian Forest up to Pewter Gym, making sure to talk to the one forced trainer there instead of walking past him, and looking more aggressively for timesavers, and took off something like 201 frames in the process. (And here I was, thinking that I wasn't going to nitpick about frames in this run..) Currently I'm going through the long stretch of trainers down the path to Mt. Moon.

has this possiblity been discussed before? i would imagine that leveling would not be necessary becuase once you get to cinnibar island, you can do the coast glitch and catch the first lvl 100+ pokemon you find, and use it to beat the rest of the game with. if you bought a SHIIIIT load of repel, i would imagine that random battle would hardly ever occur. with a lot of luck manipulation, the gym leaders would be cake. picking bulbasaur would probably be the wisest move, becuase he has the biggest advantage in the first 3 gyms. the things that would suck up the most time would be 1) 5 trainers on the bridge near the cerulean gym, that you must pass to get the SS Anne ticket from that dude. 2) The SS Anne itself 3) Getting required HMs (except flash, becuase that can easily be avoided) 4) none avoidable normal trainer battles (i.e. a bridge is very narrow and you must pass by a trianer, etc.) 5) that huge building in celedon city. (can that be avoided if you dont want the silph scope?) 6) the fire building thing on cinnibar island you get the key to the gym from. how do you guys feel about this? i couldnt see this run being faster than 30 minutes though.

You know there's a Search option at the forums? Heck, the relevant topic is even in front of your eyes if you just look at the topic list in the forum you posted this in.

Pretty impressive run you have there :) but I must say that i prefer a bit more the Pokemon Red movie in SDA (http://speeddemosarchive.com) because your's looks soo fake since you have used luck manipulation (or what ever) to prevent the random battles and to cause critical hits in fights. Otherwise I think it's very fine start for Pokemon Blue speedrun. I hope you'll finish this (some time soon :) ) since it's always nice to watch a new run even though one has been made before (but in this case it's not completely same since the minor differences in r/b).
Which run should I encode next? :)

Well, that's kinda the point of the site. If you're using an emulator, you're not supposed to be subjext to the same limitations as a console. If Tilus wasn't perfectly manipulating luck, his video wouldn't be accepted.

Well, what can I say but: you are correct :) btw, does Tilus kill the Rattata in the beginning to get level in the next fight with the trainer or is there another reason for that battle?

Yes, the Rattata in the beginning gives me just enough EXP to level up to 8 in the last trainer battle before the first Gym (and also lets me learn Bubble). Without it I'm stuck at level 7 and poking away with 2 damage critical Tackles, which are definitely not fun. =P

I've been watching for a while now, and I'm at the Misty fight. I have to say, great run so far, but I have one question: why the japanese rom? Since I have barely have any idea of whats going on, its almost too boring to watch. The only reason i know what "##### #########!" means after an attack is becuase I've played way too much pokemon in the past.

Japanese characters take up less space than English letters, so less time is spent scrolling through dialogue. I'm really looking forward to seeing the final version of this run. Good luck with that!
Working on a mod of an old favorite in my spare time. PM for updates!

Actually, the stated reason was he wanted to show us all the terrible terrible character art. =3

How crazy idea would be makeing a TAS of any Pokémon in which you'd catch every (possible) pokemon which you are able to get in that version? ;) It would of course take time, but when useing luck manipulation etc. it wouldn't be so extremely long as you'd first think. This would naturally require lots of prepareing and checking which is the fastest possible way (as does only finishing the game it self), but wouldn't it be cool to see that kind of speedrun?

Sounds boring. I don't want to look at a speedrun where they just catch pokemon after pokemon after pokemon...

I don't think it would be impressive enough to be worth all the luck manipulation involved.

Using the Missingno glitch and the Trainer/Fly glitch, you can indeed catch every single Pokemon (including Mew) in the game on one cartridge. I have considered it before, but it would be considerably longer, not to mention much of the run would consist of basically the current run I'm working on right now, with a LOT of additional Pokemon catches to fill up the Pokedex (as there's very little even the Legendaries/Mewtwo/Pokemon caught from Missingno would do to shorten the amount of time I spend in battle). I'd have to agree that it simply wouldn't be impressive or different enough to be worth yet another run through the game.

Heh, I brought that up in IRC, but I thought it might be pretty boring too. You never know, though...

Now, I would settle for one video that catches mew and FINALLY puts all the rumors to rest. If we have emulated evidence that it is possible, I would be amazed. Even if the movie wasnt run from reset, I would still watch it and would download the avi.

Mew can be caught easily in R/B/Y using the trainer-fly glitch in Cerulean City. It's only level 7, but hey, it's still a Mew. :)

Exactly. I dont believe it. I've heard countless rumors, and I would like it to be put to rest with emulated evidence.

I would still download a "faked and cheated" avi off this site if it showed someone catching a mew. But, inkeeping with the theme of the site, they must entertain me while they do it, and they must do it FAST!
