  • BIOS used: Sony PlayStation BIOS (J)[''''SCPH-1000''''].bin
This TAS is based on [1876] PSX Resident Evil: Director's Cut "Jill" by arukAdo & Uroboros in 57:42.62. I manually edited the emulator movie file to make the following changes :
  • Barry Glitch at the beginning, after Jill and Barry enter the dining room, pausing at the right frame make Barry freeze, thus skipping the next cutscene
  • Serum Skip in the corridor where Richard is dying, pausing just when the camera changes angles, and pausing again during the cutscene makes the player regain control of Jill. This is used to leave the room and skip the cutscene. After getting the crest in the gas chamber, I lose time on purpose to let Richard die; with this technique, it is no longer necessary to get the serum.
In arukado's and Uroboros' original run, they used the box next to the serum to drop the knife and the first-aid kit. Since I don't need to go get the serum, I don't pass near a box. To free an inventory slot, I use the first-aid kit after being hit by the small plant. To free the other inventory slot, I drop the knife in the box in the garden house, as it appears to be the quickest to go to.
Besides these edits and a few minor synchronization corrections, the majority of the run was made by arukado and Uroboros, thanks a lot to them!

feos: Fixed the movie time.
feos: Delayed until the author resyncs the run with a proper BIOS.
feos: Silencement is missing, I assume he's not working on this run at the moment. Canceling for now.
Silencement, Once you're done fixing it, you can uncancel it back, or just submit a new run.

What if it's possible to do these bugs on the actual console? The ones I added to the run are feasible on actual hardware.
Your statement does not compute. How is an emulator specific bug possible on an actual console?

I think he meant to say that your comparison doesn’t hold: you’re comparing behaviour replicable on real hardware with emulator bugs, which obviously aren’t replicable on real hardware. Basically: “I can run USA RE:DC on JPN console, so why can’t I TAS it like that?”. Your explanation of the fact that it could create more bugs because it was never intended to be played like that makes more sense than the comparison I think.

The main thing is my explanation. As for your explanation of the argument here whether correct or incorrect, is flimsy to me for the same reason as in my explanation. You yourself deemed it was "real hardware". It's not a situation condoned by the game creator / console creator. I see no difference between that and an emulator.

I don't see much of a problem with running wrong region ROMs on mismatching region consoles, as long as it's emulated accurately. It looks like that one bug where you swap the disk the wrong way or leave the case open or something. It can be emulated. As can be using certain initial state for addresses the game doesn't set before reading. But shall we really go that way? What'd be the benefit?

That's the crux of the matter. Does the mismatched bios end up emulating the intended bios accurately in terms of the game in question? Now instead of wasting everyone's time in trying to figure that out for no real benefit, just use the correct BIOS and not leave any room for doubt.

Right. Even if I technically can accept it, I don't see the benefits of doing so as a policy.

This is a bit of a bump but this has been in the back of my mind for a bit recently. How come we went to this movie and pinned it for incorrect bios usage but we didn't the same to something to a movie submitted in January that same year? (A JPN bios should've been used) There was also one from the year before from that same author which used the wrong bios. Not to dig this author out as I do love their work they do but they're the example I know. Now I haven't compiled the list for PSXjin. But honestly I should've done that when I was doing my reencodes to see what else is unturned. There's a total of 3 pcsx-rr movies^ and so far in my double check there's 2 for PSXjin and the first example used was relatively close to it. This is the first movie that bios was called out cause no one got it to sync on the correct bios, but when the incorrect bios is used no one would notice it cause it's their default. To point one more. There was a movie published under GBA that accidentally used a debug bios a year later making this Resident Evil movie sandwiched between two incorrect bioses. ^ For the quick rundown of the PCSX-RR movies: error1's Strider 2 - SCPH7502 (Should be a US bios not a PAL) Mukki's Umihara Kawase Shun - SCPH1001 (Should be a JPN bios not US) mz's Salary Man Champ: Tatakau Salary Man - SCPH1001 (Should be a JPN bios not US)
