This is exciting, when can we expect to spend 8 hours watching this? :)

Before I launch myself in this gigantic project... Would there be an audience for a Perfect Game of FFIX ? http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197338-final-fantasy-ix/faqs/41181

Judging by the view counts on Youtube, the FFIX run was significantly less popular than the FFVIII run, among regular online viewers. Still, there was quite a lot of interest for the run on this community and I think a lot of people followed your progress and watched the WIPs. I guess it also depends on what you mean by 100%. What exactly would define a 100% run? For example, would you need to learn all skills? Open all treasure chests? Get the Excalibur II? (I guess that one will have to be foregone.) In any case, I think if you're going to start a major project like this, you should do it primarily for yourself, because you want to do it. :)

Yeah I edited it. I meant a Perfect Game according to gamefaqs standard.

Looks quite daunting, but interesting. The good thing is you already have a lot of planning ready to use. I'm sure you'll be able to improve on the FAQ's methods. He uses the Cotton Robe trick, for example, and you might be able to get money easier.

Though I wasn't too interested in the any% (beyond skimming through the finished product of course.) I would probably follow a 'perfect game' run pretty closely.

So, I found a couple of improvements at the beginning of the game. During the fight against Steiner and the Bomb, killing Zidane after the Bomb grows instead of before saved 109 frames. Letting Baku attack twice to build up more Trance loses 260 frames but will save a bunch against the Plant Spiders. Stealing the Silk Shirt from Blank and equip Zidane with it to reduce thunder damage by 50% avoid the use of a potion during the Plant Spiders fight. Plus I managed to save a turn. Around 1400 frames saved. Better RNG for the Black Waltz 1/Sealion fight. Grand total of 1423 frames saved after the BW1/Sealion fight over the published run. If you've spotted any improvement somewhere or have better strategy in mind, now would be a good time to say it :) Edit : Found out that the RNG sometimes also play a part on how fast a character starts talking. So I've been able to shave some frames on the dialog part. Plus better RNG for BW2. 1691 frames ahead after that fight.

Interesting. Have you found out any more details on this? I may investigate for FFVII...

There's not much more to say. Delaying the entrance of a dialog part to have a different RNG may result in a faster dialog in the next sequence. Here is an exemple : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBHz1DlQTeg

I'm not sure WHY they would make the RNG affect the speed of the dialog sequences, but great find nonetheless. If every dialog can potentially be improved to the degree of the clip in the link, you could easily shave off a few minutes at least!

Ok. I wondered if you had looked into the ASM. I'll jump into it and take a look :-P

Is there any information on the RNG and other in-depth mechanics already out there? Might save me some time.

So, I've started a 100% run of FFIX. It will include: - Opening every chests, searching every field icons. - At least one of each item + perfect amount of missable items (one per character that can equip it + one for the inventory) - Every ability mastered - Every Blue Magic for Quina. - Every Friendly Monsters. - Correct answer to all of the Ragtimer questions. - Every Chocograph dug up and found + every cracks and bubbles. - Defeat all optional bosses. - Read and deliver every letters, restore Mognet Central. - Every Easter Eggs. - Combined Stats Path (Freya gets the forced xp from Tantarian and Amdusias, Quina takes Abadon and Dagger takes Shell Dragon). All characters stay at level 1 until forced xp or if they have the max stats-boosting equipment. As Combined Stats Path is by far the most difficult path, it can be considered playing on hardest difficulty. - All cards with max stats. - 99 steals and dragon kills + 101 frogs caught. - All FMVs. Disc 1 is up : Link to video

Long time lurker here, but I just have to comment on this. I watched the progress of the any% run when it was still a WiP, but in the end I was somewhat disappointed by the low entertainment factor caused by the huge amount of cutscenes/conversations compared to actual playing. This run is much more fun to watch since way more stuff happens between cutscenes. I played this game dozends of times, but I already lost count of how many things you picked up, that I never noticed in my playthroughs. I especially loved the chocobo hot & cold section. I don't think I ever reached a comparable beak level before late disk 3 and I usually spend hours on this minigame. You manage this in about 10 minutes while digging up tons of stuff I didn't even know could be dug up there. Can't wait to see the second disc.

Another person chiming in to say this is one hell of a project to look forward to, doubly so after seeing the job done thus far. A few questions; How many of the Endgame stat boosting equip's did you grab from Chocobo Hot and Cold there? I think I saw a Barette, which was the best Strength booster iirc? Anything else of note? Is the Marcus/Ekio stats glitch planned to be used? What in-game time are you expecting to reach Excalibur 2 at? There seems to be alot on that list that needs to be done before the 'point of no return' on disc 4 that you wont be able to back track for.

First of all thank you guys :) Unfortunately I made a huge mistake and forgot a Phoenix Down in the Prima Vista Crash Site. I'm currently redoing that part to pick it up. I'll probably have to redo the Ice Cavern as well, before catching up with the RNG in Dali where I'll hex-edit the rest. I'm following the Combined stats path so no stats-boosting equipment was pick up in Chocobo Hot and Cold. The thing to note is that I managed to dig up a Cachusha (odds are 1 in 10240) that allows Ability Up for the girls quite early. Marcus/Eiko glitch won't be used. Quoting Gamefaqs : " It should be ignored. Doing it makes this challenge impossible to complete; you can't get Marcus to Lv 99 and still get the Excalibur II and everything else. Furthermore, Eiko will not have "perfect" stats if you raise him to Lv 99, she'll simply have un-natural stats. Getting only as many Level-Ups as possible without sacrificing the Excalibur II is even worse because the glitch would only be partially exploited and thus you would be left with neither natural nor godly Eiko. If you can't do it all the way, it's better not to do it at all and get Eiko as she is meant to be." If all goes well (I did a lot of testings) I should reach Excalibur II between 11h50 and 11h59min59s99, with all chocographs and bubbles, most of the Ragtime Mouse questions answered, all items picked up, around 20 steals, 5/6 Dragons, 69 frogs (so I can catch the last 8*4 marshes, and reach 101), played around 10 Tetra Master games and all but one or two friendly monsters. Basically I know where I need to be at what time. If for whatever reason I'm a few minutes late on my schedule I can ignore a few chocographs and dig them after.

If you are opening every chest, does that mean you are going to do the Nero Family Sidequest (the lost sidequest that made perfect game Excalibur II impossible).

Yes I'm doing the Nero Familly sidequest and the 10 Promist Rings. They're included in my calculations.
