After encoding with DeSmuME using the microsoft codec, sometimes opening it with movie maker causes the last few seconds of the encode to abruptly truncate. I had to reencode it with full frames to avoid this. I'm not sure if it helps, but this happens more often when I record avi, stop, then continue to record another avi without advancing the frame.

Uhh... movie maker? THE Windows Movie Maker? If it is... why? just why? and if that's the case, what version are you using?

Because it came with my laptop. Also version 2012 (build 16.4.3503.0728) from the about page.

Yyyyyeah, I think the only answer to this is "Use anything but Windows Movie Maker". Just get Avisynth and learn the basic functions, it's not hard at all.

Use avisynth and virtualdub.
