Bump! I was reminded of this topic after I got some interesting messages on YouTube. I'm guessing they were banking on that at least some of the recipients would be named Alex, meet the same girl at both a party and a gym at the same time, of whom they don't know the name but do know she had a page on a website and they'd get "something" going. I initially wasn't even sure whether it was a scam, just that regardless of whether it was real or not, I definitely would not want to click that link.

They don't care. They're hoping some dumb teenager (to use a stereotype) will assume it's a wrong recipient but still be interested in clicking the link. After all, it's a sexy girl! Suddenly your computer picks up an STD.

I got a message like that too. I assumed it was a scam though, since my name isn't Alex and a person from my age group wouldn't say "to get this thing going" and probably not "asap" either.

I just got this gem the other day:
Now I was flattered by the compliment ("stylish stranger"), but immediately felt the sting of rejection upon noticing porsh69 didn't include the webpage.

Someone managed to, over the course of a few months, screw a Nigerian scammer out of ~$80 posing as Kelsey Grammer and got him to send two photos of himself, one shirtless. http://www.419eater.com/html/joe_eboh.htm

That was an entertaining, albeit long, read. I didn't know people used to fight back against these scams!
