Terrible, terrible taste taking a video you had NO involvement in and reuploading it with advertisements. And this isn't the first one obviously.

I clearly see an overlay ad on every one of the parts you uploaded, at the beginning of every upload from this TAS. Edit:

Dude, that's by default that Google does that. edit: It's when you see the 15-30 second ad before the video starts, is when its a monetary account.

Then you might want to check your account for copyright strikes.

If you have no strikes or content ID matches, then you're making money off the videos from what I can see. Feel free to go to your "creator studio" on YouTube, then to Analytics. Search in the little bar for those video parts, and if the estimated earnings is anything BUT $0.00, you're profiting.

I'm pretty sure that happens automatically for videos nowadays like Solarplex mentioned.

Dude, you need to calm down. Youtube is designed to display ads first, ask questions next. Moreover, wips aren't watched by a lot of people, even if you track and upload every japanese wips on youtube that would be a poor use of your time.

Calm down because I'm sooo hyper.. YouTube has never just put ads on videos (that has literally NEVER been a thing and I have no clue where you got that idea), and as a partner, I can remove mine. I noticed mindnomad didn't reply after I pointed out how to view profit. If he can confirm he's making $0.00, I personally apologize for being "out of line" (lol you guys on this site...). If not, I stand by everything I said. And Zarma, all it takes is a single clip to be shared by a single decent blog to make a little extra cash. $50 for 10 mins of work reuploading stuff? I'm sure plenty others would like to make [theoretically] $300/hr, so you call it a poor use if you want. Edit: Protip to avoid all this crap: Make a channel that isn't your personal one (that you obviously treat as a business with views and subscribers) for uploading things like these WIPs that are supposedly a "public service."

I can't make a profit out of it because I can't enable ads on the video due to Google detecting third-party content on the videos anyway. I had never intended to put ads there and the reason there are anyway is because there's third-party content in the video. This has always been a thing on YouTube. Get your head out of your ass.

Only reason I persisted after that was because you said you had none. Strike is synonymous with content ID match when talking about channel status. I'm completely aware that Google puts an ad for the third party (Nintendo in this case), and had you said that from the beginning, there would have been no more questions or accusations. Cya! ^^

I have no clue where the fuck you're going with all of this. I have no copyright strikes, I can't enable ads, I can't make a profit out of the videos anyway nor did I ever intend to. You're making yourself look like a dick because you felt the need to point out something that you yourself never even looked into. Maybe to boost that good ol' ego of yours. I'm pretty sure if there's more than one person here saying that YouTube has done that and has been doing that, then I wouldn't see a need to deny any of it and try to look like you're the right one. You only come off looking like a jackass doing so. Get your head out of your ass.

Did you even read my previous post? I can't reply to what you said since I basically just did. You answered wrong. Had you said there was a content ID claim (ie a strike), this would have been over many posts ago. And this had nothing to do with my ego, I have had people try and profit from my work and it's fucking frustrating. I was going to call you on it if it was taking place (not that it was my work this time). Period. And I'm too tall to get my head anywhere near my ass. Get a new insult if you're gonna start flaming me for asking you a question.

It matched third party content, there was no content id claim because nobody else has the video on youtube, smartass.

It is all the same. Yes, a strike is usually from a video that gets removed, but in essence (and when talking to networks), it means THE SAME THING. If they appear here, that's all you had to say: https://www.youtube.com/my_videos_copyright Now stop publicly insulting me for doing nothing wrong. It's against the rules anyway (and trust me, if it wasn't I'd be fucking ripping on you for acting like a douche about uploading others work).

YouTube ads will always be bad because it is an extremely broken and bias system. There's too much stuff for Google to search thru to find all the stuff that can be claimed as someone else's work, or without having the right holder's permission. It's just an unfortunate part of this shit that we have to put up with. IMO though, since (I would assume) most of us just use ISOs and ROMs downloaded (illegally) online, we shouldn't be allowed to have ad revenue on anything we produce. Whether Mindnomad intended to have ads or not, idk. Just let him take it up with Google if he feels inclined to. If it's Google's auto-ad system because of some sort of content ID match, then I would assume the ad revenue goes to whoever the content owner is in their system. When I uploaded my Resident Evil 4 TAS to YouTube, I had to edit out a 1 minute cutscene or else ads would play in the video. It's just a pain in the ass that I had no control over. My solution: just use adblock, and no one gets money. I do enjoy the work that has been done with Mario Galaxy games, although they are a little bland compared to some stuff that the other 3D Mario games offer. Gravity abuse is always entertaining to see.

pls stop being mean to sp guys hes just an innocent manipulator who only does tases of extremely popular games to bring in the views and minuscule youtube ca$h from the sheeple who mindlessly follow siglemic and other sm64 speedrunners maybe if we're all nice to him then he'll put a scarecam on his next freerun and scream every time mario almost falls into a pit but OMG MARIOS OKAY thank god because mario is a living feeling video game character with emotions and if mario dies too many times after being stabbed by the blood whistle then sp is going to kill himself too

I happen to agree with SP, although it is unfortunate about the whole youtube monetization thing. It is something we unfortunately have to live with though, as tens of thousands of people abuse the monetization system daily. Even if a single penny is gained profit from these videos, it is a problem, especially for a community like us that uses a lot of illegal emulators and roms, including Mario Galaxy 2 for this thread specifically. I'm fine with viewing TAS entertainment, but if we could disable ads, and check to see if ads are a part of our videos when we upload them, it would be for the best. As a side note Samsara, I see your Kirigiri avatar...I just platinumed Danganronpa myself. Such a good story, but I could do without school mode...

It's a shame I only use that avatar when I'm knowingly making awful posts, though I've got Fukawa for everything else. I've never actually played it myself, since I have a lot of issues with the localization and I'm already very familiar with the game after reading the LP that made it popular. also, super dangan ronpa 2 is absolute fucking trash, but that's not the point of this post As for the ad revenue thing, I'd only actually see it as a problem if the money were actually anywhere near substantial. SP's responses - specifically the repeated comments about "if you're making $0.00 then I apologize" which implies that even making a single cent off of a WIP is absolutely fucking criminal - just come off as incredibly overblown and egotistical in this context. I'd understand the harshness if mindnomad or anyone else were actually making a profit off his WIPs, but unless it's far more than SP himself is making (which I doubt is much at all, to be honest), it's still not something you should get that worked up over. I mean, I know this is only tenuously related, but I've always felt awful about encoding and uploading the Family Feud TAS since my upload got inexplicably popular compared to the official encode. To my knowledge, though, I've never gotten any backlash from Heisanevilgenius or anyone else over the fact that it's up. Plus, even though I've been prompted to by Youtube on a few occasions, I've never monetized it or any other video I've uploaded. I just don't see what monetizing and ad revenue have to do with TASing, and I really don't see why SP is so caught up in that aspect over anything else. It's morally ambiguous at the very least and downright narcissistic and careless at most.

Okay, all you offended 12 year olds can quit whining. I literally did nothing but be direct about a question. I didn't take 6 years to answer properly like mindnomad (or flame anyone). The intention of the information I was asking for was more than clear regardless of little semantics that narrow minded people on this site cling to so they can "be right."

Can you stop following me everywhere? I don't like you or your dumb posts towards me lately (both situations having nothing to do with you). And your first post this time is basically spam and doesn't even provide an opinion of the argument at hand. You guys are just being assholes for me potentially calling someone out. And I could go on and on about how wrong you are with revenue, but people here don't read explanations after getting an idea in their head. Guess I'll try anyway.

It is criminal. Don't pretend it's not. I don't even agree with his uploading of the clips at all on YouTube, though I'm not his boss or mom or whatever. I'm not going to tell him not to. But seeing ads on a known partner channel on something they had no involvement in is infuriating (had he truly been profiting), and as I've said, it's happened to myself over the years. It would be much better to make a new account to exclusively upload stuff like that. Because even without money from that video, he gains viewers and potential subscribers that he doesn't deserve. If he wants 3D Mario followers, he shouldn't have chosen the game that only goes left to right. That's my opinion on it being reuploaded at all, though it wouldn't even be in a post had you just stayed out of it like any good lurker. *cough* TASEditor *cough*

Your ignorance is massive. I got almost $2.5k from my Dwight Howard video going viral last February with nearly 2 million views. That's only 1 example. My partnership is literally helping me with bills and basically paying my rent. I have gotten over 400,000 views/month for 3 months now (after working my ass off with SMG2 and bro strats), and each of those months, I've gotten/am getting over $400 (because of holidays having higher ad buys than other seasons). That's just me recently. When MKDasher first became a partner in 2012 (before me), his views were ridiculous at the time and was making equal to US minimum wage for MONTHS due to massive views from his SM64DS TAS. In case that doesn't register right in your brain, he was making about $850 - $900 a month for uploading next to no content. Other note: People don't understand that you don't only get paid out for certain videos if you are a true partner. Your views accumulate over time on ALL monetized videos, and all the cents ad up. So what, one of my videos has only 300 views over 2 months; It still contributed to the overall total, which like I said, has led to over $400 3 times (with December looking even better than the previous 2). I guess the last 3 months isn't a fair sample size, so here's another stat: Since becoming a partner in September 2012, I've brought in less than $200/month a total of ONE time (never have had under 220k views for a pay period).
Samsara wrote:

As if it's not obvious in my last paragraph, it clearly has to do with TASing, along with everything else in the universe that can be uploaded to YouTube. There isn't some rule vlogger ads are better, lmao. Before someone tries to pull anymore crap: And even then, at least I am an author in the video.
