Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone at TASVideos! Ho ho ho! This is the Oddworld TAS you have all been waiting for. This is the 100% TAS of Oddworld Abe's Exoddus, brought to you by Samlaptop (the RTA World Record Holder of Abe's Oddysee single segment speedruns and encoder for this run) and Dooty (The optimiser and the human who is full of crazy ideas!).

Game objectives:

  • Rescues all 300 Mudokons
  • Good Ending
  • Heavy Glitch Abuse
Since the 100% category is a really long run, there isn't very much say about each level other than Dooty and I have done all we can to optimise it top notch. We will be excited to see the day when PSX will be TAS-able in Bizhawk and then we will be be making Abe movies on that emulator to replace the not so good sound quality PCSX movies. I've already been making some on the daily beta builds and the audio quality is much better than PCSX. Now I'll be off set a new RTA World Record run on all categories of Abe games! I stream live on Twitch at: [dead link removed]
See you there!

Dooty's Comments

Merry Christmas everyone! This is our humble present for all of Abe's fans out there. It is by far the longest and most complex TAS project of "Samlaptop and Dooty's" team. Our progress was hindered a lot of times, either by emulator limitations or mistakes we made. But it was also a fun experience, and we hope you enjoy it.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who has helped us with glitches for the Abe games. The run would have never been so fast without the discovery of the glitches!

feos: Accepting to Moons and publishing. Might use Samlaptop's encodes if he ever manages to complete them, doing my own encodes meanwhile.
Samtastic: Published with my YouTube encode! Yay!

Damn, I want to watch it, but I don't want spoilers (on where the 300 mudokons are). It's been years since I completed this game.

I don't want to watch it now, I'll wait for it to be published then I'll watch the French commentary. Nice job guys!

A stream (and its highlight) of the run on your twitch channel would also be an option as a temp encode would it not? It would also have the benefit of commentary if you were willing. Regardless, congrats on finishing this to you both, and looking forward to watching it.

There may be a glitch we can used to rescue multiple mudokons without rescuing all 300. It might save some time so we don't have to go to every secret area etc. The twitch streaming is for my RTA runs. I do Abe's Oddysee any% on PC, Abe's Oddysee 100% on PSX and I will be considering speed running CTR when I get my NTSC PS2 very soon and i export all my RTA runs to YouTube when I complete a good run.

I have split the encoding discussion from this submission thread to the Encoder's Corner. Feel free to post temporary encodes on the Workbench and discuss encoding issues with runs; howewer, further technical support for Samlaptop should go to Encoder's Corner.

A way to keep it clean. Thank you, turska.

I'm glad the movie has been published but feos should have used my YouTube link because it seems that feos enocde is a little bit slower than mine.

I dunno what "slower" is supposed to mean, but the HD youtube stream for publication must be HD. Yours is not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_video
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Incorrect to the both of you. If both of you had knew what to do rather than being at a really awkward stare-off the conclusion would be this: "feos, your encode for the YouTube version is 15fps and not 30fps" Or something around the lines of telling feos that he uploaded a 15fps encode to YouTube.

Re-encoding. Too much messy tweaks in my script...

But this Oddworld wiki titles it RputureFarms and that's how it's displayed in the game in Oddysee: http://oddworld.wikia.com/wiki/RuptureFarms_1029

Right, I'm questioning it. Sam, you were originally complaining about how the old video was slower, in that case I proved you wrong about stating the wrong thing. feos, you have updated the encode and it's running at the correct video fps. Why was the fixed one for TASVideosChannel chucked into unlisted and switched to Sam's encode which is off TASVideosChannel when the fix has nothing wrong?

Because I was the author of the movie and feos decided to use my encodes.

Yeah I have a high end computer which can encode quicker and now I know how to encode for TASvideos, I'll be encoding future Abe submissions.

Spikestuff: do you mean that the author can't host a youtuber all of a sudden or what? If there are any conditions that aren't met for that, tell us.
