Post subject: Would I get in trouble for submitting "practice" TASes?

I wondered this a long time ago, while reading over the rules page when I first registered. In a nutshell, I thought about how strict the rules are for submitting runs here, but considering the fact that you guys *occasionally* encode gruefood submissions, I thought that hopefully I won't get a ban or something if I just submitted a run as practice, to get to know the art of TASing and how to get better at it. Then again, there is the "Demonstration" category, but still a lot of those are pretty fast. What exactly would happen to me if I just put some runs up for practice, then once I get the gist of it submit an actual, serious run? I hope I don't anger the Grue, the Agent or adelikat...

You should avoid making submissions like that. You should only submit a run if you want it published. It would be better to post your work in the corresponding game's forum topic and on youtube. If you make too many "bad" submissions, your ability to submit may be disabled indefinitely. What kind of TASes are you working on anyway?

We ask that you only submit movies that adhere to the movie rules (ask if unsure, particularly if you believe your run is in a "grey area") and have put significant effort into them (aren't trivially obsoleted). Otherwise use the game-specific forum (or create one if it doesn't exist yet). Chances are you'll get feedback there. Sometimes submissions will be encoded by community members voluntarily, sometimes they won't. Only published movies will appear prominently on the site and on the Youtube channel. Note, that most submissions require effort by site staff, which can add up very quickly and slow down processing of other submissions. In general you won't be banned if you are not abusing the workbench for dumping obviously unfinished work ("WIPs"). At first you will receive advice about how to do a better job creating TASes and submitting; if that doesn't suffice you'll get a warning and only then will submission rights be revoked (probably only temporarily or until you can show you have a good movie to contribute. This happens very rarely)
All syllogisms have three parts, therefore this is not a syllogism.

The first ones I plan on making are in my signature below. The Tamagotchi ones, I originally intended as April Fools TASes from last April, but seeing as that time has already passed I thought those would be better suited as seperate Youtube videos, not submitted to the site, unless by some miracle someone says, "hey this guy did a good job TASing three blobs that grew up into unrealistic animals and suddenly died". There was a TAS I submitted for Kirby Super Star that only completed Spring Breeze but 1) someone beat me to it and 2) I didn't read the rules and the rules say you have to beat EVERYTHING in the game. As time progresses it just so happens that there are more games for consoles out there that I am uncovering on the internet. Some good, some bad, I'd say.

don't submit practices never, only april fools is the time to submit shit,as for the unconventional TASes,i guess you can always try your luck with them, but normal unoptimized TASes,is pretty much obvious to never have it submitted here, because we take our times analyzing the submissions and it's just a waste.
TAS i'm interested: megaman series: mmbn1 all chips, mmx3 any% psx glitched fighting games with speed goals in general

As a rule of thumb, your second run will always be miles better than your first. As tempting as it may be to submit your newly finished TASes to the site, you may want to wait for a v2 which benefits from all the experience you've made with the game and skills you've gained as a TASer. Plus, doing a testrun beforehand allows you to nail down the route and strategies of your game so you don't run into brickwalls when doing the "real" run. If you finish a run, you can always post it on the forum first to collect feedback. If the feedback is good enough, you can still submit it anyway. Good luck with your endeavours.
