Conquest of the Crystal Palace is an interesting action platforming game offering some cool mechanics, including your canine friend who you can call at will and use as a platform.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.2
  • Beats the game as fast as possible.

Comments

I noticed this game while browsing through old runs. It looked pretty fun and also easy to improve due to the intense lag. Most of the ~700 frame improvement here is lag reduction.
~600 frames saved lag reduction
~100 frames saved in faster level 2 boss fight (one less wind cycle)
Getting a shooting powerup also helped reduce much of the lag, even though it also costs a couple frames to equip it and shoot behind you.

Other comments

I thought this game was pretty cool, I had actually never heard of it before I saw it in the movie files. This was a side project as I struggle with the other ones. I suspect its probably possible to get a few more frames of savings, but I think 10 seconds of lag removed is enough to get this run more in line with current standards.

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Audience response has been positive about this run, including when comparing it to the published movie. As such, accepting to Moons as an improvement to the published movie.
Spikestuff: Attack!

First time seeing this run. I liked it. Pretty simplistic game. It reminded me of Alex Kid in Shinobi World. Yes vote and keep them coming Alyosha, your development as an all around taser is pretty neat. Well done!

I really liked the published run. When I watch this submission, I'm surprised it only reduces about 10 seconds of lag. This movie feels like it flows a lot better. You make good use of actually killing enemies in the back with the dog, and the powerup is nifty. (I didn't actually see when you got the powerup though, nor do I know exactly how it works.) Nice improvement!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. @Samsara: thanks for the encode! I was going to try making one...but then forgot. @AngerFist: Thanks! @mklip2001: The power up is just a projectile weapon that drops from an enemy. It is actually a fairly common drop, I get it right at the start of level 3 (you can tell when the circle appears next to the sword at the bottom of the screen.) @NitroGenesis: I would say ~85% of the run is the same inputs. Most of it is pretty straightforward stuff, not much point starting from scratch.

Yes, absolutely. This looks like a fun hidden gem from the NES, and the authors threw in a little flair beyond simply completing the levels. Good call on not touching those girls, btw. I wouldn't trust a girl who's just standing around, blushing, and saying "hi" in the middle of a gaggle of ghouls or a storm of lava. Girls like that are trouble!

Don't worry! He is not dead, you can in fact buy energy for him from the girl's store, it just happens that he has none by the run's end.
