Introducing Spec Ops Done On FUBAR Fast, or SODOFF, a speedrun of the PC version of Spec Ops: The Line on the hardest difficulty (FUBAR, which can only be unlocked by beating the game on Hard) in 66 segments. The final time is 1:40:02 (mostly IGT, though the prologue and last chapter have to be manually timed). (Spec Ops is a modern military shooter in the same way that Funny Games is a horror movie, and I'll just leave it at that.)
FUBAR is an outrageously punishing difficulty. According to Steam's achievement stats, only 1.4% of all people who own this game have beaten in on FUBAR (I'm not sure about the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 versions). Ammo refill containers only give you 40% of your capacity as opposed to 100% on Easy, and you can be killed by a single accurate burst of assault rifle fire from halfway across the map. Thankfully, your squadmates are slightly more durable than you are and have very good AI, and I make good use of them throughout the run.
This is not the first time I have tried to do a segmented run, but it's the first time I've ever completed one! All of the research and study of the game mechanics was done on my own, although I did receive some feedback and support from brassmaster and akheon. I kept it under wraps for as long as I could to keep it a surprise for some of my long-time TwitchTV viewers, and reception so far has been mostly positive.
There are a few spots that are pretty rough (especially one wasted flash grenade in Chapter 8), but overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, especially after 8,975 attempts. I hope you enjoy the final result, or as much as you can "enjoy" a game as bleak and oppressive as this.
