Well, even if it's a Steam game, sometimes you can just run it in offline mode or move it somewhere else and it runs fine. I would test but I do not own this game currently and don't feel like bugging my friends who have never used Hourglass before to muck around in it.
Actually, even the steam version is drm free, in a way. It actually loads in hourglass even if you don't have steam installed (I copied the directory from my steam folder it to a virtual machine), though due to xinput you can't bypass the steam save message, and it seemed to instantly desync even without input being given, so...

I'm aware of broken Xinput but don't know how to fix it. Trying to fix timing every now and then when someone's around to help me test theories.
If anyone wants to help, drop by the Hourglass IRC channel. (#hourglass on freenode)
After playing it myself, Shovel Knight. Oh yes, let's get a very recent game TASed!!
In answer to the earlier point, Yacht Club Games are offering a DRM-free version for download from their site + free Steam key, but I assume the non Steam version is the one we want for Hourglass purposes.

Nyet 3 could be interesting. It's a Tetris-with-challenges game, except the challenges include things like "snakes depositing blocks on the playfield" and "barriers that open and close across the middle of the field", and you can buy items to make some of the challenges easier -- except that items are expensive so you can't clear every or even most of the challenges by cheesing them with items.
Or maybe it'd just be a dull puzzle-game TAS. Who knows.
Pyrel - an open-source rewrite of the Angband roguelike game in Python.
It's a DOS game, so here is a more appropriate wishlist for it.
I watched the video, and this looks like it'd make a really interesting TAS! Of course, it would be a labour of love to make.
You could do that, but the resulting movie would be labeled "DOS Minesweeper" in the submission and publication, which wouldn't be right. It's best to wait until either Hourglass supports Windows 3.x games or JPC-rr is accepted for Windows 3.x submissions (then it could be "Windows Minesweeper").
Unless you just want to TAS it for fun, of course.
I just found this speedrun of Eternal Daughter; it's a lengthy Metroidvania game that normally takes hours, and with a handful of fast movement, machine gun fire, and wall clipping glitches, it is completed in about 20 minutes instead.
Perhaps this can serve as inspiration for a TAS :)
okay i've read some of this post and i dont see something about volgarr the viking.
there is no may post concerning hourglass, and tips, faq for running games :(
i want to tas this game, i'ts a steam game but there is many others vertions downloable. we dont need mouse and it's not flash. for now i cant run it..

Some Windows games have the funny quirk that they depend on mouse, even if they never use it. No idea if the game is one of those. If it's not, it could be failing for another 100 to 10000 or so reasons, knowing why the game fails just by someone saying "for now i cant run it..." is impossible at best.
The best "guide" for Hourglass right now is:
1. Install XP on a computer / in a VM.
2. Cross your fingers it's gonna work after trying all setting combinations in Hourglass that you can think of.

Hey, if you need some help regarding English, there is quite enough French-speaking native people around here, feel free to ask ;)

If you would like to continue discussing this game, you should rather create another topic, as this one is only for people to say "Oh a TAS of this game would be nice" in case a TASer has no clue what to do.
----
I didn't got the time to pass by ^^ It seems I have an account on freenode permanently logged while I am not.
Not sure I could still contribute in any way, I only practised RoR & web for 6+ months.
i've been in australia 7 months so i can esaly understand english but write it it's an other thing :p
i'll try with xp on a vm but i'm really not intrested in installing an oooother system on my pc.
actually on my 7 (64 ) the game seems to exe, and there is a process, when i stop running that kill it, but nothing on screen. if i succed in running it or almost somthing like running it i 'll creae a post for it :)
otherwise i was the guy tasing Prehistorik man on snes, so for tasing i'm on it :)

WELL, for half life there's this: https://github.com/YaLTeR/BunnymodXT An injector program for HL(and alot of other goldsrc games) that can (sometimes the patterns arent found)allow you to tas goldsrc games, using scripts that execute commands in game, and can(but not yet) be turned into an ingame script (AKA a .cfg file) and played back
here is some basic info on the script layout http://tinyurl.com/HLTASDOX
