Basically all the progress I've made so far was over Spring Break. I don't have time or energy to be working on it currently. I've got a lot of irl things piling up, plus this is my final year of highschool, so I need to be focusing a little more on that. For reference, the SA2 Hero Story TAS took 8 months to make, and it's half the length of Metroid Prime. Not to mention, I don't have any co-authors on this one. Don't expect me to be speeding through this project because it's going to take at least a year or two realistically.
last year of high school? yeah focus on that for now, TASing can always wait. I dont understand why people are hoping for you to go fullspeed through it when everyone always has other obligations. good luck on tests and college acceptance(if youre going for that) for now

The problem was pretty obvious, but I found the source of the desync: The beetles in Canyon Cavern act different upon playback from the start of the movie, compared with playback from my savestate at Space Jump. It's quite possible that this is an obstacle I can't really overcome. I need to do more testing, but if these beetles spawn DIFFERENTLY each time, I'm kind of screwed. However, if they consistently work they way they have been, there's a possibility that my playback savestate at SJF was corrupt, effecting the way the beetles acted. If this is the case, I should be able to redo the following rooms and consistently have them sync. EDIT: This movie seems to play back properly and consistently, I'm going to go with the hopeful cause of desync and blame my savestate. Link to video

Very cool! Love how you use the sidewalls to gain speed. At the very beginning before entering the first tunnel, wasnt there a strafe jumping (while locking onto something) that was used before? instead of just rolling to the first tunnel? Or did you find rolling is faster

A sub-hour run was published on SDA back in 2013, actually.

Itspersonnal, whats the average desync ratio for you? I was thinking if it's bearable, it's really worth continuing your run. If you are however suffering from a lot of desyncs, then I dont really blame you that much. When I tased Metal Slug X on FBA, I would hit desyncs alllll over the place. Thankfully that run was merely about 15 minutes long so I stuck to it. Metroid Prime being around 40 minutes-ish of gameplay + 3D game is a completely different and hard task.

It seems to me that the longer the movie, the more often desyncs happen. It seems there's just more that can go wrong the longer it is. Typically movies under 2-3 minutes never desync on me, no matter what. Longer movies tend to start getting slightly varying RNG with things like enemy movement. It got to the point where I could play the movie from the start and sometimes get past certain sections involving enemy movement, and other times not. Using the exact same setting and all each time. I figure the more progress I make, the more places for this to happen and the more often I'll end up needing to redo things slightly differently. It's not something I care to do, I spent probably somewhere around 20 hours optimizing the movement in Chozo and it rarely syncs, I have no motivation to try again until desync issues are unheard of.

Wow.... Nice job man! I wish desyncs for this game will be fixed as soon as possible 'cause your run has the potential to be amongst the greatest runs ever made! Edit: Meanwhile, let's have some fun speculating :P The current world record is T3's :53 run. You saved like what, 2-3 minutes during the frigate escape. So that's sub 50. Now this + tasing movements, I would predict once you are done with your run, you'll reach :32.

Simply amazing, that's all I have to say. It's a shame that Dolpin still isn't ready for this game, because this is one of the TASes that I just have to see before I die. I can't even imagine how low the time could be pushed..

We still have no idea what could be causing the desyncs, as no one has been able to narrow down what change caused them, or if it has been afflicting this game all along.

The two main desyncs I ran into where caused by enemies acting differently. first time was the beetles spawning in inconsistent places and the second (the one that ended the TAS) was scarabs not acting the same each time I played the movie back.

Yeah, I know the results of desyncs. The problem is that Netplay is perfect, so, I can't test for desyncs through that. TASing is something I'm not familiar with, and I don't know how to cause the desyncs. If I could, I'd bisect by making some kind of really unoptimized, as fast as possible TAS on various versions until I narrowed down what build caused the desync. I don't know how much time would go into each TAS, though, so it may not be feasible to reproduce it like that even.

That reminds me; are there actually any categories for all logbook scans? Or all scans + items? Also since there's no MP3 thread, I never played 1 and 2, only 3. On 3 there are these that also appear in game. Is there any runs that also collect them all (minus the green "friend" credits)?
