Wow, I have no words for this. If this ever turns out to be possible, this game will be destroyed. Sub 40? What a joke, why not sub 30, everything seems possible with TASing!
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Except stable sync, or so it seems. That trick is pretty cool, and gives me a new look at metroid primes husk. It's like a scary face.

If I remember well, that's the video where he completely skips the 1st form of Metroid Prime, going straight to the final battle.

Yeah I can't view the clip either 'cause it's private. If he skips the first phase of Metroid Prime, then I definitely believe sub 30 is possible :)

The video used moon jump, so you'd have to find a way to get out of bounds.

Infinite boost would technically work, no one knows how to intentionally activate that though. I also wouldn't be surprised if a really stupid bomb jump could do it.

We still have no idea what could be causing the desyncs, as no one has been able to narrow down what change caused them, or if it has been afflicting this game all along.
For starters, someone could try identifying which revisions are affected. Unless there's always been desync problems with this game, that'd be the easiest way to pinpoint the issue

Assuming that itsPersonnal was tasing with something around 4r5400, it's not really reliable to do a frame precise desync test due to a frame advance bug introduced in builds beyond 5400 or 5402 that causes it to unpause after 2 frames of frame advancing.

I'm aware of this bug. Iirc he started the TAS before 5402

I'm on 4.0-4222, the only build with accurate GC loads when I started. the desync has to do with enemies acting differently each time I play the movie back, which slightly alters my dashes trajectory if I dash off of them, throwing the whole movie out of sync.

That reminds me, F-Zero GX has similar problems

I managed to somewhat get dolphin to sync now. I got a full input file of a bit of story mode messaround on all chapters to work, but some other input files desync consistently at one specific point, so I wouldn´t say it´s rock solid. From what I discovered the desyncs only appear when you interact with AIs, because I think they have some RNG, however it can sync even with heavy AI interaction
I don't know which revisions E-Dragon has used, though

I used one of the newer versions around 6000-7801 and it could have been caused by someting different, but I'm not entirely sure. Also I thought it might have been the same problem as this one, which is how I came up with the theory of AI desyncing the TAS, but I think the AI actually caused it.

My main computer's harddrive died on me and it's very possible I won't be able to recover the files from it. Here's everything I had recorded and uploaded (as unlisted) of the Metroid Prime TAS Link to video

Some of that made no sense, like how you just magically have ice beam and teleport ot of the watter. Another 15 min and the game would have been finished at the rate of broken stuff happening

The video is literally titled "Everything I could salvage", the post clearly explains that this is only the footage I didn't lose. I don't understand.

I actually had to RMA a harddrive this weekend (file system type got corrupted). Had to do some weird stuff in Linux to attempt to recover some of my files. Anyone know of a good data recovery tool? All the ones I've found are pricey, or you have to take it to a specialist. Hopefully any advice given can help itsPersonnal with his file recover, if the HDD failure wasn't too severe.

Recuva is the best free one that I have used; among paid ones there's EasyRecovery Pro. Then again I also know of a recovery lab in my home city that does the job for dirt cheap (relatively speaking), so I kinda don't have to go through the hassle if worst comes to worst. These tools are mostly helpful with accidental deletions, much less so with filesystem corruption or, god forbid, mechanical failure. Needless to say, if you're still using the failed drive, do not write any new data on it under any circumstances, and try preventing any automatic writing done by resident applications and system services (disconnect it physically until ready to do the recovery actions, if needed). And make sure to backup everything that takes a significant amount of your time to do via Dropbox, Google Drive, or whatever other free means there are.

I'm usually using PhotoRec, a free multi-platform software that recovers files by looking at known headers (not only pictures btw).

I used to work in Data Recovery. If it's *just* a software issue (filesystem corruption) then you shouldn't have RMA'd the drive. Because a format would have "fixed" the issue (making the drive usable again.) Recuva is pretty much the only free Linux filesystem specific recovery tool available. You should image the drive to a new one before working on it. R-studio is powerful and really nice. Photorec is a signature only recovery. Meaning it's a last resort sort of option. I doubt that it will be able to recovery your video files (due to filesystem fragmentation) or your movie files (due to unsupported signatures). Most linux filesystems (for instance ext4) have superblock backups that can be used with mount options. And are more friendly about filesystem recovery through fsck, but if you are going to attempt this, again, image the drive first.
