If i download the PAL version and do the setup at the beginning, i can improve that time So thanks now i understand PAL versions might have a slower time for the slide, so if he did that on USA version, the time would be higher. I don't have to worry for the PSS time, anyway i can't do any setup because it's in a full TAS Thanks for the info anyway :)

Wait, the PAL version calculates the slide time differently? What's the difference / conversion? Also, is the strat used in that video when jumping off the slide faster than what you did in your TAS?

I actually timed the difference and my strat is 0"40 faster than the video of the WR. And yes the time is not exactly the same in NTSC and PAL. Important to notice also that i played this on emulator, so the time might be a little bit greater.

I think the setup as the beginning may save much time.

I did some testing of the Princess' Secret Slide timer between different versions. Specifically NTSC-U v1.0, and the European version. It turns out that the timer does not run slower on the European version. In both versions the timer increases by .04, .03, .03, in a loop. Approximately every 0.9 seconds, the timer will increase by .04 where it would usually increase .03. Weirdly, the different versions will do this on different frames, but not always in the same order. One version will end up .01 ahead for two frames, and then they will be back in sync again. 12"20 on US will be 12"21 on PAL, and 13"47 on US will be 13"48 on PAL. Those are the only relevant differences. With some other, much slower times then PAL will be faster by .01. I didn't test any other versions but I expect the timer would behave in a similar fashion. Basically the timers are the same, unless you get 12"20 or 13"47 on NTSC, in which case it is 0.01 faster than on PAL.

Thanks for the info. I also did some test and the fact is that the setup save really much time compared to the N64 Version. The strat with the dive is slower than the one with the jump kick, so i could get under 12"93 if i TASed it with the setup

I watched the 12"93 next to your newest TAS in slow-motion (starting from the wall bounce at ~6"00), and the 12"93 actually did seem to be faster by a frame or two. I think I might try to TAS it myself at the weekend since I have some free time, and a few things I want to try out. A TAS of the slide aiming for fastest in-game time would also be cool to see.

What do you mean by "in game" ? You mean during a full TAS to aim for the fewest frames possibles to do the whole level ? That was it

In-game time, meaning aiming for the lowest time on the slide timer, lower than 12"93. This would use the setup at the start, and wouldn't curve towards the star at the end. Of course, this wouldn't be useful for any full-game TAS, I'm just interested in what the "perfect" record will be compared to 12"93 (or any future RTA records). Sorry for not being clear :)

Oh ok Btw i noticed that the curve to the star doesn't make you losing time (SM64DS slides have quite weird properties.

That's looking really good, Sharkey! Whomp's Fortress 100 coins & reds, and Bowser in the Dark World in particular were amazing. For Hot-Foot-It Into the Volcano, it might be faster to jump and flutter directly to the star, from the pole. The best I could get was 12 frames slower, but you might be able to do better. Also, I did a bit more testing on the slide, and realised I was wrong about what I said before. The 0.01 fluctuations are actually not version specific: you can get a 13"47 or a 13"48 on both versions. In other words, the timer is completely identical on all versions. Lastly, I found this glitch today: Link to video This might be useful if someone finds a way to do it on the glowing rabbits.

I finally saw the WIP. It seems it requires a bunch of revisiting past areas a bit, but I'm not sure how it affects the entire run. Has the entire route been planned out yet (including the rabbits)? Also, is there anyway to predict more places that might be a heaven/hell portal? Currently the WIP only uses 1 at the very beginning to go under the moat, and even then I don't recall any explanation on why that particular spot works.

I already know that glitch. With every rabbit you can move a bit before he gives you the key, but with this one if you are Mario you can completely walk around while the rabbit is gonna give you the key. I already thought about that and later in the run i'll test that glitch to see how could it be useful. Thanks for the video anyway.

There is not really an explanation to why hells/heavens work. It could be that the angle you slide and hit the slope at is not suited for yoshi or any other character. So instead of just staying there the game does some quick math and places you just high enough that you are out of the invisible collision box that surrounds the level. As for hells Portlands. I guess it can't quite give the height and places you in a state of what looks to be the sliding position. Also I found this last night and I think I understand this game a little bit more now. http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?88024-Super-Mario-64-DS-Debug-Menu-Guide
