Tremane & willwc "Mega Man II" in 17:15 also known as Rockman World 2 (ロックマンワールド2) in Japan, is the second Mega Man game for Game Boy. Mega Man has to face Wily and his time machine. The 2nd Mega Man killer "Quint" is also represented in this Game. Mega Man II offers gameplay elements ( → Screenwraps ) and bosses from two sequential Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) games: Megaman 2 & 3.

Game objectives

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Manipulates luck
  • Uses no passwords
  • Uses Screenwraps
  • Emulator : Bizhawk 1.11.1

About the game

I have to thank dezbeast for his marvelous Mega Man II TAS. Basically all Stages are similar to his old TAS except from Top Man onwards. Since after we have achieved the "Hard-Knuckle" we are able to twist time and space and screenwrap through ( almost ) every screen we fall. This is done by shooting a Hard-Knuckle on the last frame before the screen transition happens ( you can also screenwrap from a ladder up/downwards - seen in Needle Man stage).
RNG : I have no clue how it really works basically if you do no input ( e.g. Needle Man stage ) you can change the drop the enemy will give you - I tried around a lot, but sometimes I couldn´t get the same outcome as dezbeast ( e.g. Magnet Man big health refill ) and thus I have some downtime in the finished TAS.
This run clocks at : 17:15.9 or 61873 Frames ( 261 Lagframes ) compared to dezbeast: 17:41.2 or 63678 Frames ( 2 Lagframes )

Samsara: Removed branch name. You don't need to put a branch name for any% submissions.
Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Replaced submission file with a 7-frame improvement with truncated ending frames.
Noxxa: A fine improvement, with a nice new glitch to spice up the second half of the run. Accepting to Moons as an improvement to the published run.
feos: Pub.

User movie #27281741461353451 Fixes ending input, as well as accidentally improving the boss fight by 7 frames due to earlier jumping.

Hm, too bad this game has fixed slide distance. It really makes the TAS look worse than it actually is. SmartFrame, do you know if the glitch can further improve the TAS, possibly such that it may be faster to do Hard Man fifth instead of sixth?

Well, i dont think it is worth doing it, since the hardman fight would take so much time without weakness and magnet-stage doesnt offer so many places to screenwrap ( doing it too often also freezes the game ). The only way to Further improve the TAS would be to Figure out how RNG works and dont lose frames by just standing around to manipulate it.. PS: also here is an encode for those who dont wanna dl the file Link to video

This is a pretty mediocre Megaman game among the GB collection, but you play pretty solidly. Boss fights look pretty good, and there's good weapon energy and health management. The new wrapping glitch with the Hard Knuckle makes this a lot more interesting than it was before. Nice find!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

Thanks for the encode. This was a pretty entertaining run, actually. Surprisingly fast and fluid for a GB Mega Man game. The art was also surprisingly nice for a GB Mega Man game - too bad they hadn't figured out how to work the GB sound chip yet. The Hard Knuckle glitch toward the end also broke it up a bit. I also totally forgot the game had a Salvador Dali world. Yes vote.

... And the award for 'Worst Soundtrack in a Game Boy game' goes to... Jokes aside, I was not prepared for the zipping that I would witness in the second half of the run. Here you go, have a Yes vote. ... Seriously, WTH was the composer smoking when he put in those high frequencies?

In case you're curious, this Mega Man game is mediocre because Capcom had to enlist a company named Biox instead of Minakuchi Engineering. The latter company developed Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge earlier in 1991, whereas the former had developed this game later that year. Biox wasn't used to developing Mega Man games, and it certainly showed here. (source) Anyway, the run. I like what you two have done with improving the current TAS, if not because of the crazy screen-wrapping action after getting the Hard Knuckle. Yes vote.

I've beaten all the GB Mega Man games recently, and I have to say that this one is one of the worst games that I've ever played. The soundtrack is catastrophic, and the game is so easy that damage boosting through everything without taking care of Mega Man's health is the normal strategy to beat the game casually. The only noteworthy moments that this TAS has to offer are the few screen wraps. Nothing else in this run looked "superhuman" to me. Not that the movie is not optimized, but rather that having good Rush usage and perfect boss battles are not enough to make it look that much different from a casual playthrough. I don't think people that have not played the game realize that. Considering this. I have to vote No, and I don't understand how this movie got Yes votes from everybody else so far. This is great Vault material, but anything that could have been entertaining is just ruined by the awful audio in my opinion.

The submission poll is useless at best. The judging of a submission is determined solely by the decision of a judge and not by the whims of some poll up top. Also, entertainment is subjective. :) (I wasn't one of the people who voted Yes.)

How does the hard knuckle glitch work exactly? You explained you fire one frame before it begins scrolling, but what happens then?

idk what exactly happens - but hardknuckle freezes you in place for the shot-animation - so basically you stop between the next screen and the current one and the game can´t handle it and just loads the next screen without enemies and graphics.. i´m not technically knowledged so i can´t tell you what exactly happens in the game.. sorry :(
