I don't think you can make them save anywhere else than in the Dump folder of the Dolphin configuration folder, but you can change where the Dolphin configuration folder is using this: https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/guides/controlling-global-user-directory/

Try making the directories in question links to other locations

Hi. One similar question again: since there have been already several H.265 encoders (such as x265) in use, has anyone tested how H.265 performs on TAS movies compared to H.264 that we currently use? When do you think might H.265 start to replace H.264 here? Thank you. :)
I'm not sure if anyone has done the testing yet. I personally have not played around with it, though I really should. Eventually if it is better, I could see a move to it.

Thanks for the links. I'll read through them. Note that I have not read the article yet, but my guess is the testing was done on live material vs game material where there is a lot of sharp edges. I don't know how much better HEVC would fair in that. This is why more testing needs to be done.

Hello friends! I also recorded videos of Rosenkreuzstilette but are videos of flawless playthrough (mix of Speedrun and longplay with high precision in the actions and made with frame advance). Until August last year I was still using Windows XP on my old computer (which broke) and now I have a new computer with Windows 8.1. That Windows XP Professional I could record and synchronize movies Hourglass with no problem, but I tried to use VirtualBox with Windows XP Trial (like FractalFusion said) and giving desync, managed to install the virtual machine but I can not synchronize, and the settings used to record the time were: Version 1.05c in english with the Hourglass was the necessary: Runtime -> Locale App -> FORCE ENGLISH LOCALE Multithreading and Wait Sync -> ALLOW Emulator used: Hourglass r81 I made these settings in the virtual machine and gives desync, tried so other settings but nothing work. Would if I test another version of Windows XP without the trial will it work. I want to encode the two videos and I can not. I hope you can answer my message. Thank you! I want to encode my two Tool Assisted Flawless Playthroughs (one with Spirita and another with Grolla) in HD and put on my channel. I hope an answer!

Hmm, that is a hard problem. I'm a little surprised that VM didn't work. I assume you used the same Hourglass version that you used to make the videos? Have you tried Hourglass in Windows 8.1 with WinXP compatibility mode?

If you can still get XP drivers for your new PC then you could install XP on a separate partition (reduce the main partition first with e.g. a Linux boot CD and gparted) or on a separate HDD.

Put in compatibility mode does not help, still not working.

I do not know how to do this and can not do, for I am not yet technical computing. So I turned the virtual machine, which some said they managed to make it work Hourglass but in my case kept giving desync. For these reasons I am asking for help to see if there is something wrong with the virtual machine I chose (Windows XP trial and VirtualBox) based on FractalFusion instructions or if someone could do these encodes for me.

I just thought of another factor. I know in the past some emulators get affected by multiple cores. More than likely your new computer has multiple cores while your XP machine may have only one. Did you try to set the affinity or VM to only 1 CPU?

Hey all! I've recently dumped Windows for ChaletOS, a derivative of Xubuntu. I'm very satisfied with it, but I've been having trouble playing "Modern HQ" mkv encodes. Video is fine, but the audio codec can't be detected / played with VLC (2.1.6, the latest update provided by apt-get) or mplayer. mkvinfo seems to detect codec info correctly. I have followed this guide, and I installed libopus0 and opus-tools, but still no success. Can anyone help? Thank you!

I did the procedure to install VirtualBox with the full version of Windows XP SP3 and still giving the same problem described in this print. If I record a new movie he synchronizes, but my old and full movies are not syncing. I'm desperate and do not know what else to do, I do not know what happened to me have all this sad misfortune of my movies do not work. Someone can encode for me? Did you also try my suggestion of changing the affinity to only 1 CPU? I can try to see if it syncs here. And if it does, encode it for you. Where can I get the replay files?

I'll send you a private message the game, the two movies and the configuration needed for you to make them work as well as I would like them to stay their subtitles (since they are Flawless playthroughs, mix between Speedrun and longplay). I hope it works, because when I played in my old (and died) with Windows XP computer these movies worked perfectly. I hope these movies synchronize to your computer. Thank you. I'll upload the videos on my channel itself even as the Enterplayment is completely stopped and i will credited you as encoder.

I've got this kinda weird problem. I just used dolphin 8814 to dump a 24gb avi that's about 60 minutes of video, but the video length is displaying incorrectly. It should be about an hour, but clicking on it in the file browser displays a length of 2 minutes, and loading it up in virtualdub or VLC displays a length of about 58 minutes. Stranger still, VLC will display the remaining 2 minutes showing a negative time remaining on the right side. I can't get a similar behavior to occur in vdub though, as processing the video clips off the hidden 2 minutes at the end. I'm really not sure what to do other than redump the video, but it took 13 hours the first time and I don't really want to go for that if there is an alternative.

so does VLC and VDub have all the video? You said about 60 mins and they both display a length of 58 mins. Are you just missing 2 mins? If both have all the video, then you should not worry.

Not directly related to a TAS project, but having an answer may help someone else down the line (and given the encoders here I'm hoping at least one of y'all has an answer). I'm trying to encode subtitles into a gameplay video using this script:
Language: avisynth

LoadPlugin("C:\VSFilter\VSFilter.dll") function Get_ZoomLevel(int h, int i) { # 720 lines enables Youtube's HD mode (h * i >= 720) ? i : Get_ZoomLevel(h, i * 2) } core = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\cosmo1-unsubbed.avi" left_ass = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\achievements-exp.ass" right_ass = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\commentary-exp.ass" base = AviSource(core) i = Get_ZoomLevel(base.Height, 1) base = base.PointResize(base.Width * i, base.Height * i) base = base.TextSub(left_ass) base = base.TextSub(right_ass) return base
The game runs at a native resolution of 320x200; when I try previewing/encoding this script on the intended video I don't get subtitles, but when I try previewing it on a completely unrelated video that's 640x480 the subtitles work fine. Is there a minimum size on TextSub, or am I just doing something stupidly? (I'm upscaling the video first as a separate encode as a workaround, but I'm not happy that I can't get this done in one pass)

This will most likely make the subs look like shit, but it's useful to actually check if the way you have it set up can actually read these files:
Language: avisynth

base = base.TextSub(left_ass) base = base.TextSub(right_ass) i = Get_ZoomLevel(base.Height, 1) base = base.PointResize(base.Width * i, base.Height * i)
The only reason I'm saying to do this, is because I'm unaware on what the subtitle files actually look like.

Doing the subs before the upscale doesn't make a difference. This script fails.
Language: avisynth

LoadPlugin("C:\VSFilter\VSFilter.dll") function Get_ZoomLevel(int h, int i) { # 720 lines enables Youtube's HD mode (h * i >= 720) ? i : Get_ZoomLevel(h, i * 2) } core = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\cosmo1-unsubbed.avi" left_ass = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\achievements-exp.ass" right_ass = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\commentary-exp.ass" AviSource(core) #i = Get_ZoomLevel(Height, 1) #PointResize(Width * i, Height * i) TextSub(left_ass) TextSub(right_ass)
This script, however, works.
Language: avisynth

LoadPlugin("C:\VSFilter\VSFilter.dll") function Get_ZoomLevel(int h, int i) { # 720 lines enables Youtube's HD mode (h * i >= 720) ? i : Get_ZoomLevel(h, i * 2) } core = "C:\#honobono\GYU\Raws\ep01.avi" left_ass = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\achievements-exp.ass" right_ass = "C:\LP AVI AVS\Cosmo1\commentary-exp.ass" AviSource(core) #i = Get_ZoomLevel(Height, 1) #PointResize(Width * i, Height * i) TextSub(left_ass) TextSub(right_ass)
The only thing that changes between the two is the source avi. Here's the ffprobe for both files

I'm thinking it's a colorspace problem, but that doesn't make sense since it all worked more-or-less correctly for Commander Keen... E: Here's the ass files I'm trying to hardsub.

I'll try it out here. Meanwhile, can you do Info() on both scripts and do a screenshot of the info?

Using a RGB32 clip with a resolution of 256x224, it works fine. Lemme add your resize function. Edit: With the 720 resize, it works fine also.

Completely unrelated avi that proves the subs do function: Where that's at in the gameplay: Right now I'm trying to sub directly through ffmpeg using a merged ass file instead of having avisynth do both sets of subs (I had the achievements in a separate ass file to keep myself focused on one set of subs at a time - I don't want interplay between the commentary subs and the infosubs for Cosmo). I'm hoping that makes a difference. E: Looks like that's going to be my solution. (Not using img tags due to size)

It could just be that the sub plugin doesn't like YV24, so you may want to convert it to RGB32 first (though that's not lossless)

I thought I had transcoded that to RGB24 when I started working with it, but I guess I didn't actually do that until Cosmo2 (Aegisub Something I was using and I can't remember what doesn't play nice with ZMBV, ffmpeg doesn't like DirectShowSource(foo), and my laptop with megui was out of commission at the time). Still, at least I have a workaround in case this comes up again.

Honestly H.264 in AVI is not a good idea, though if it's lossless, there won't be any b-frames, so I guess it's fine. If you have the space, just use Lagarith.
