I had nothing to do while I was talking to a friend over the internet, got a fancy headset and my Skype loaded. This was put together out of boredom. Any comments would be good perhaps. Should I continue this run or should it be dropped? Also.. Should I take the second health power up? One HP ain't that much. I can't take a hit from one enemy now. More health would be good, but it would slow down some to get it. But I might gain the time back when I can loose more right? Anyways... Check it out for yer selves and tell me what you think. http://highness.no-ip.com/Superman(U)[!]-ByHighness.rar

I need some advice please! Download and check this out. http://highness.no-ip.com/Superman(U)[!].gmv In level 2 (the train part), I jump into the walls some times. This looks kinda ugly and stupid probably, but it's there to manipulate the upcomming enemies, plus moving forward instead of going back to jump around those ugly spiders. Anyways. Comments, and lots of em' please!

http://highness.no-ip.com/SuperMan-Level3.First.Part.zip There's the beginning of level 3. Only the flying part that has been recorded there so far. I added a save state so you don't have to watch entire level one and two in order to check out the new parts. How ever I guess non has so far seen the boss fight in level 2. Might be worth to check the run from beginning right? I'm not entierly satisfied with level 1 yet though. I will need to learn how to hexedit stuff so that I can redo it. That time it will be some frames faster, plus I will smoke all enemies in the flying level there, which I didn't in the current run because I somewhat thought it would be lame. :)

Oh.. Finished level 3 now. That level wasn't too hard. Used about 350 re-records only during that level. But it seem to be sufficent.

Oh.. Forgot to tell. Between level 3 and 4 there's a cute cutscene which I skip. If you wanna watch it you'll have to stop the movie playback as I kill the level 3 boss. I saw no point in showing it since it takes up too many seconds. :)

Ok. I worked another two hours on the run. I'm up to the boss in level 4 now. Alot of projectiles to keep track on. But I'm gonna fire his ass away to another galaxy where he doesn't bother me again. Bwahaha!

very nice, lil question.. in lvl 1, would it save a bit more time if you actually destroy laser pillar with jumping kick and save some health for more "take damage to save time"? i know some need to take hit on some laser pillar, but 2nd, 4th and 5th look like could be destroyed.

First laser pillar can't be destroyed because of those flying things that gets in the way. Second laser pillar is too short of distance, plus I get that annoying flying guy behind me. I would have to slow down in order to take out that laser pillar, thus loosing time. Third laser pillar is to high above so I can't reach it with a flying kick. Fourth laser pillar is also too close to be able to take it out with a flying kick. Besides I got those three flying idiots behind me. They would most probably catch up due to the time it takes to jump. Takes about 10 frames or something. Fifth laser pillar comes in too close as well. I would have to pull back in order to destroy it. And then those other guys catch up on me and deals damage to me what so ever. Sixth laser pillar might be doable. But it will be tight since that guy running towards me is likley to hit me instead. Thats why I beat him up. I tried this alot though. The collision system is kinda horible in this game. They can deal damage to me even if I'm half a character away some times.

I guess since I'm done Alex Kidd, I should try another game. Even though this one's in the vault, it's not that bad, and the current run of this game is in dire need of an update - it's almost 12 years old and has several visible mistakes throughout. Link to video Here's a test of the first level. I'm sure I can squeeze more frames out of this... I sort of rushed it to get a feel of the game. But, for now, it's a 2-second improvement.

Good job! The boss was strange and the fight was boring in comparasion with typical fighting games, but it’s fine for a platformer like this, I guess.

Link to video I redid level 1 and saved about a second, then I did level 2. The subway section is pull-your-hair-out levels of annoying to tas, with those instant death worms and this game's horrible collision detection. On the bright side, I'm currently 27 seconds ahead of Highness. :)

There will always be someone interested in a game. TASVideos law :) I'm glad to hear from you, Highness. Currently making some good progress, so I'm thinking the TAS will be submitted around the end of this weekend.

I was wondering why you stop to punch the guy at 7 seconds into the video. Wouldn't it be quicker to jump over it and land at the bottom of the next building, or is the delay in the jump itself more of a time loss? I don't remember much of the mechanics of the game since I haven't played it since about 2005. :)

It appears that way, and I did it in my first WIP. After I redid it I learned it actually turns out slower, because Superman's running speed is faster than his speed in the air, so minimizing his air time is a good thing. Also, punching the enemy is rather quick. After Superman's arm extends for one frame, you can duck and cancel the rest of the animation while still dealing damage. Unfortunately, this only works with standing punches, but it allows us to defeat most enemies quickly without having to jump.

Thanks for clearing that up. Just watched the submission. Looks really good. Would you mind sharing the RAM-watch table btw?
