Threw this together over a period of two days, but it took a few weeks of practice beforehand: Prince of Persia - Completed in 16:29.63 [game time] [2,107KB] Edit: Now encoded in H.264, saving me a bit more bandwidth. There's no sound, for two reasons: 1) I played with it turned off so I didn't have to wait for the tune to play at the end of each level. 2) Even if it was turned on, I currently have no means to record it. So you'll have to do without :) It's not perfect, but it's certainly no easy task to get a time like that :) Stuff I missed # Immediately after starting the first level, hold Ctrl-A [Restart Level]. This eliminates the long pause after landing. # On level 10, it may be possible to push the second to last guard back out through the gate you enter through instead of wasting time killing him. I haven't been able to do it though, and it might even be quicker to just kill him. # Also on level 10, it's possible to fall off at the end in such a way that you land right in the corner without enough room to crouch. You still take damage, but the animation and pause is skipped and you land right on your feet.

I'll probably have a better run done in a few weeks. I've already knocked nearly two seconds off the first two levels :)

Wow, it used to take me ~40 min to beat this game.

i'm not really a pop1/2 fan, i found the game not so fun to play, but i must say i'm impressed :) i watched the whole thing. saw some nice glitches. so nice work :) in level 11 when you run over the top in the 3rd screen up, if you dont go all the way to the end, you'll save time (unless this means getting fall dmg + the dmg delay of course) in level 12 you go up, then you go down and up again... i couldnt see a reason for this

On Level 11, you need to run to the end so the tiles fall and disable the switches on the floor below. Touching them closes the gate. On Level 12, if you simply climb up to the ledge and hit the tile, you fall off the edge and go splat. Climbing down and back up again puts you a pixel further to the left, which is enough to keep this from happening.

Nice tricks. Very nice speedrun. After watching this I thought are you going to make also a speedrun for Prince of persia 2? :) I completed that game once, very hard.

This sure is nostalgic. I was scared to death just as I was when I was four, discovering the trick to level 11 at the end, after the mirror you. And your strategy for defeating the final boss was just brilliant. :)

Is there a rule against bumping? It was really late last night and I totally forgot I was looking at an old topic. :p

In my opinion, bumping is fine as long as the bumping post has something relevant to say. I don't see anything against bumping in the rules.

I'm glad this one was bumped, hadn't seen it before as a rather new addition to this forum.

It's too bad he didn't fight the Lv. 6 fat boss, though, I remember having lots of problems with that fight. :)

Heh... A couple of weeks after that post I had my new run finished up to level 9, and it was 10 seconds quicker... Then I found a way to finish the first level about 7 seconds faster, so I deleted everything and started over... Then it got set aside so I could work on some other games... Then I completely forgot about it... Ah well... It should be finished sometime before Duke Nukem Forever.

It's been a while since I played Prince of Persia, but here's my thoughts from what I can remember: Level 1: It's supposed to be possible to just run straight at the first guard without stopping, then perform a running jump. He will swing his sword at you but miss. (Instead of luring him to the screen edge first.) Level 7: Do you have to drink the slow-fall potion? You could instead lower yourself down and lose 1 HP from falling; might be faster. Level 8: I loved how you lured the guard into the thing that chops him in half! XD I used to do that every single opportunity I had (same with making them fall in spikes, pit, etc.). How did you avoid having to wait for the mouse to open the door for you in level 8? I'm guessing you were so fast that it hadn't closed yet? Level 10: When dealing with the first guard (where you have to run a couple screens to the right, and then run across these loose panels that fall on top of his head, though strangely they don't damage him), would it have been faster to crouch when moving under him (so that he doesn't hear you and turn around), then climb up behind him and surprise him? Instead of running all those screens to the right. Did you have to kill the yellow guard instead of running past him? I remember trying to reach the switch in the ceiling after running past him but I don't remember whether that was possible. Perhaps pressing "up" (to try to reach the switch) caused me to draw my sword again, or maybe I didn't have enough time and got hit (and killed, since I didn't have my sword drawn).
