After going through the normal process of learning how to TAS (doing 8 and 16-bit platformers), I have decided to be adventurous and try a game that takes place in a 3d environment. The game in question is Castlevania for the N64, and for some reason, I can't get the player character (Carrie, in this case) to move around using Tasstudio. I have been able to navigate menus and can get her to jump and use her weapon (the A and B buttons), but can't get her to move using the UDLR inputs. Any advice or words of wisdom to help a newbie TASer out in his first attempt at a 3d game?

I'd suggest you to use simple controls instead of TASstudio. TASstudio is more suitable for editing movies rather than making them.
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

You can make a N64 TAS with TAStudio, but it's going to be rough with the current version. I made two levels of Quake64 with TAStudio on a version that was better with the TAStudio controls. The current version has conflicts with analog input controls. Jogapher: The UDLR is the dpad, not the analog stick. You need to double click into the X-axis or Y-axis and then you can either type in a number or use arrow keys or hold and move mouse. But as I already said it has conflicts and the playback courser often doesn't jump back when the greenzone is invalidated. Dimon: TAStudio can the used to both make and edit movies, it's up to the TASer how well he can use it.
