This movie utilized a common bug in SMB1 in which Mario's state goes into a mess when he hits the ax and Bowser at the same time a the end of a castle. This allows the movie to display strange stage effects. I used the "short Fire Mario" state in this run to perform things not usually seen in regular runs. Glicthes like no flag pull (found by klmz), walking through the wall and warp bugs are used to save some time. Since I need to complete at least one castle, I didn't use the warp in 1-2.

regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end

1-4
regular speedrun, touching Bowser while getting the ax at the end, messing Mario's state (small Mario is displayed as Super Mario)
2-1
regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end, getting a mushroom and a fire flower, gaining "short Fire Mairo" state
2-2
using "left + right" swimming glitch for performance, regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end
2-3
regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end, throwing fireballs backwards by pressing left for one frame, killing all the cheep cheeps

3-2
regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end, killing all enemies for performance

regular speedrun
4-1
regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end
4-2
regular speedrun, using wall glitch to push Mario to the right of the screen, triggering the warp bug taking Mario to the warp zone through a pipe that should lead to a bonus room
8-1
regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end
8-2
regular speedrun, using "no flag pull" in the end, slowing down for 3 frames to avoid fireworks
8-3
regular speedrun, not using "no flag pull" in the end to avoid fireworks
8-4
regular speedrun, using warp bug by entering a returning pipe at the left of the screen to end up underwater, using double jump glitch to save time getting into a pipe

The funnest part to watch in this movie is world 2-3 and world 3. This movie is special because Fire Mario is never meant to be short but he actually can be. This movie might be improved by using "power fire" (found by HappyLee) glitch to kill Bowser more quickly.

Samsara: Judging.
Samsara: In case you didn't see them before, I would recommend reading the 3 comments left on your previous submission.
Categories such as this are judged more strictly than more standardized categories. If the audience doesn't like it, then we can't accept it, and well... I don't really think the audience at large liked this. You made a few strange decisions with the routing, there are some noticeably suboptimal sections, and the glitch itself doesn't really lend itself to an interesting full-game run.
You mentioned you've been working on the any% run, so I would suggest keeping at that. Beating HappyLee's 4:57.31 time would be one of the most impressive achievements in site history in my eyes, so I wish you luck on that. As for this category, though, I have to reject it for not meeting our entertainment standard.

If the goal is to beat the game as fast as possible while using the Small Fire Mario trick, then it would be faster to warp to World 3, so you only enter one castle before World 8 instead of three. Besides that, I doubt that this makes a worthwhile enough category for publication. It shows off one ages-old trick that's easy enough to do in real time, and that's about all it offers.

I cant really see this as a good goal idea at all, on one hand if the goal was to get small fire, couldn't you easily just get him in the end of 8-4? if this was a speed run then why not warp to idk say world 3 or even world 7 and get the game error? while there are a few nifty "shortcuts" being small fire the long run its not that great, gotta vote no on this with a weak meh but more strongly no

This minor graphical glitch sure seems like it warrants a run /s No vote

hi guys there is something i didnt say this movie has to obtain the state as fast as posdible so that a greater portion of this movie is done by the short fire state or else i will just take the warp to world3
I love Nintendo

There is literally nothing interesting in the small fire Mario route that isn't already in the world record run - your run is longer, your size is the same so you can use the same wall tricks, and you have fireballs, which means that you can just pass through enemies instead of avoiding them. I doubt even a full run of the game as small fire Mario (minus World 1, of course) would even be interesting in ways that the warpless run isn't already interesting.

This run was a lot better optimized than a lot of other people's first Mario submission. Good job on that. Couldn't you use any of the koopa shells to avoid having to walking to the castle entrances though? 3-1 is a good example for this. The warpless run uses a koopa shell there. Instead of trying to complete the game with the stipulation of using one specific glitch, you should probably do a full SMB1 glitchathon instead. I'd much rather watch that.

I second scrimpeh, but I don't believe there's enough glitches that are not already present in the published runs to warrant a "glitchfest" run of SMB1.
