I've been thinking of TASing fighting games for entertainment, not quite like the half hour demonstrations on the site, just the standard single character arcade runs. I've got some concerns before I start. I'm familiar with the TASing process, but have never made a TAS myself. Is it wise to jump right into the fighter genre, or should I start with simple platforming games as the beginner's guide suggests? I ask this because playarounds tend to be less optimization heavy, with the only major obstacle being the CPU. Can TASes be done on weaker computers? My laptop is fairly new but has some lag when running the games I want to do on Bizhawk. Will this affect the movie playback? Lastly, since fighting games TASes heavily depend on the AI's actions, is the movie likely to desync? Or are there ways around that?

Lag will not affect movie playback. The avi you save while playing back will be normal speed. Otherwise, just start TASing the games you like. You get better the more TASing you do. Desyncs shouldn't happen but idk how robust arcade emulation is.

Assuming you're tasing arcade games, I would advise you to stay away from FBA-rr and simply use the latest FBA build. Currently it's much more robust than FBA-rr (which is based on a six years old build) and supports recording with basic savestate functionality, and rerecording is under heavy work as well.
