Link to video I guess this is worth mentioning. Also edzan is working on a 100% TAS (that he already decided to redo because of this newly discovered secret world).

Unfortunately it seems that there is an issue with 5.0 where the disc state isn't saved properly with savestates. Doors will instantly load if you savestate/loadstate during them, which leads to desyncs.

Perhaps he should send Fog a pm and see if he could resolve it. There might still be a fair shot at fixing it.

I've already discussed this a bit with Fog in the Dolphin IRC. JMC can reproduce the problem, but we don't know why it's happening or what can be done about it.

This issue doesn't occur on Dolphin 4.0-4222. I don't know if that would help you figure out the cause though. EDIT: Apparently that revision did have loading related desyncs but they were much smaller in comparison

Some new tech was discovered very recently that completely changes the way this game is TASed: extended dashing. As implied by the name, it's basically a scan dash that traverses more distance than normal due to retaining more speed. It works by jumping for a few frames, starting a dash, bunny hopping, and holding R immediately after. This trick even makes it so that Grand Abyss is no longer a once-only trick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha3d6jjrzA8 On a related note: edzan13 and I are going to be making an any% TAS. Recent Dolphin revisions seem to do very well with syncing this game, so hopefully we can have the first publishable movie of a Prime game. For now, here's a couple TASes I made of specific sections as a bit of a taster for this run: Quad skip (made before extended dashing was discovered): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC8VMQwz1xs Chykka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVFrvCPaWSE New TAS-only method of getting cannon ball: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBjEvqrbNjY

My lord that Chykka fight was so weird looking :) I am extremely happy Dolphin seems to be making good progress. Haven't downloaded a version of it since a long time ago. If you say sync is more stable then bring it on my man! Will you guys upload yt wips? If yes then I got to subscribe.

I plan on uploading at least a couple WIPs to YouTube as the TAS moves along. The first one will be uploaded when we get to Screw Attack.

Here's a faster Power Bomb for the start of the route to get to Sanctuary. My loads are too fast, so I had to use pause buffered lag. I'm on an older version of Dolphin, so this hopefully won't be an issue in the actual TAS. This trick works with console loads without pausing to delay the load (DCR initially found it for randomzier afaik). Link to videoEdit: I just tested on Dolphin 5.0-11667 (the revision Headshot uses) and this works perfectly without delaying the load, just like it should.

Alright, let's get this out somewhere in order to document it. (Plus I'd rather not test all this myself). Early game has several routing options that all converge at Main Reactor (DS1 room), some theoretical and some not. As I posted already, we can get an early Power Bomb when collecting Light Beam, which, in isolation, is most certainly faster than wallcrawling to the non-TAS option in Temple Grounds. But the catch is that it requires an Etank, which the only sensible option would be Mining Station Access. We do cross through this room inbounds in the route, since the Agon Temple SW is presumed faster than the Mining Plaza Sandigger SW. But in light of new tech (Extended Dash and Boost Boost), it's unclear how slow/fast these routes are compared to one another. The Power Bomb in Temple Grounds allows us to skip the Etank, and so that should be considered. Next: Light Beam after Dark Beam is extremely slow. People seem to not realize just how awful and indirect this path ends up being, because it's so standard, but if we look at Claris' GDQ run, the RTA from Dark Beam to collecting Light Beam is 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Of course there are cutscenes and non-TAS error, but this path involves considerable backtracking through the same rooms (between light and dark world), as well as a round-about path to the item itself. There are no SWs available to us in Dark Agon when entered from the Command Center portal which would allow us to wallcrawl to Light Beam, but there is potential if Dark Agon is entered through the Portal Terminal. A wallcrawl across Dark Agon could be used in place of the first wallcrawl to Main Reactor (Dark Beam) > enter dark world > travel in a large circle to Light Beam. And, it would also save even more time on the Power Bomb outside Light Beam, since you wouldn't need to reload the room to collect it. Since we enter Main Reactor again when leaving Light World, we could collect Dark Beam then. Crossroads should have a TAS viable SW, and, though it is similarly not exactly a 'nice and straight path', I believe it should be timed. (A more absurd potential would be to delay Light Beam until Dark Visor [...and SA and PBs] is/are obtained, which sounds unlikely but could potentially work out). That early game stuff is tedious enough, but there's a much larger routing possibility looming over us. Light Suit is absolutely unneeded in a TAS setting and takes ridiculously long to acquire. With a combination of Screw Attack/Cannon Ball/Air Underwater (and TAS precision) all Sky Temple Keys which normally require Light Suit can be collected without it. It's even possible non-TAS with several Energy Tanks, but TAS will have no issue with much fewer. Obviously that actual number needs to be established. With this in mind, the main focus of early game should be to collect Screw Attack and Dark Visor as quickly as possible along with some etanks... Which is something I really don't want to outline every option for doing- there are too many, as well as more options could be made viable with some theoretical stuff. (A part of me kind of wants the first TAS of this game to collect Light Suit and follow a more standard route, since it would give a valuable comparison for timing these more convoluted things, but I would be absolutely baffled if Light Suit could actually come anywhere near saving time). Anyway, one last thing that will be useful for nearly any route: If someone can find a faster way from Lower Torvus to Upper Torvus without having already collected super missiles, that would be huge. Currently it seems all we can do is float up Cache B which probably takes at least half an hour if I had to ballpark it. I think even if Infinite Speed is required, it would still save time as long as the movement after the setup isn't excessively lengthy as well. Edit: Well one of the theoretical things was solved https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKG-RIIXvm0

For Light Beam before Dark Beam, I imagine you'd wallcrawl to Feeding Pit, using that to enter Ing Cache 1. Is it possible to stay OOB even after collecting Light Beam? Because otherwise I don't see a way for you to reach Dark Oasis.

You can SW directly after Light Beam like in the video posted above for early PBs. Here's a demonstration of skipping the Vault puzzle made by Icefire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XWwZTpwz20 And a timing video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8DDHW7qZZE Also here's a super fast way to collect the Sanctuary Entrance Sky Temple Key without Lightsuit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52CzKS1G9RQ I found after posting that video that it's possible to clip back inbounds using that new desynced unmorph angle glitch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ8_LTBM9jg (This should be applicable to other areas and will save time elsewhere). And here's a sloppy test demonstrating part of the Upper Torvus STK without Light Suit. You can SA SW out almost anywhere in the room since you're outside the prioritized map and clipping is free. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdC6MCDgack

Two new SWs that allow a better TAS route Link to video Link to video New climb that allows Screw Attack to be skipped and I believe a faster 100% route(?) Link to video A alternate version of the SW in Crossroads to showcase the absurd height possible with the new exploits I found over the week. Link to video And the exploit to end all exploits, the infinite bomb jump that seems to be possible wherever you can find ~90 degree collision. (it's still kind of not fully understood, when it is and isn't possible). Link to video There you go, now Echoes is busted and you can do anything you want in the game.

100% TAS: Link to video Not the most optimized thing ever but it's a start at least. https://youtu.be/L6M5xlXgKsw This one is an interesting category. Looks like it could be optimized better.
