This game is better than Driv3r gba in my opinion. The music is better, the cutscenes are easier to get through. You just hold down the A button. No need to mash. Holding turbo doesn't work with skipping text in driv3r, but here you just simply hold the A button. Collisions are more realistic than driv3r gba. Just the visual appeal looks worse, but I don't care. As far as speedrun value, this game doesn't have many options. It does have a lot of luck manipulation involved on the other hand. Such as avoiding the police by manipulating traffic. During the "chase" missions or sneak missions, the target car will slow down if traffic is in his/her way. So in a tas, we can manipulate those cars out of his/her way for them to proceed faster. Obviously pulling the map up takes time, but again, in a tas, that's very easy to get around. You can look at the map to find the "optimal" route, so that' another speedrun value. There are also ramming missions in the game, where you just run into the opponent draining his health bar down. Hitting him/her every frame shouldn't be too hard. I think if they crash into things they also take damage, dunno. A WIP has been uploaded to my userfiles.. The game freezes on me at the hotel.. Any ideas?

How about this:focus on improving your own TASing skills, the game you choose will bend itself as you get better, practice doing some optimized movement on driv3r instead of restarting from zero in another game. You'll thank yourself for following through with a choice.
TAS i'm interested: megaman series: mmbn1 all chips, mmx3 any% psx glitched fighting games with speed goals in general

What does that have to do with the freeze issue? Driver 2 advance is a lot more simplistic and short than driv3r was. I just want to get around that freeze. This game looks like a better start for tasing. The luck manipulation in this game is pretty easy.

Does it still freeze if you use the mGBA core instead? You can activate it by checking the box at Config > Cores > GBA with mGBA. Note that your movie file might not update to the new core, and you might have to start a new recording.

I've tried that with Bizhawk 1.1.7 and it does check, but when I load the movie file(which was made in 1.1.5) it unchecks the gba core and still freezes on me. Exact things I've done: Load rom, load movie, change gba core, reboot core, then playback, and it unchecks everything.

You need to make a new movie on the mGBA core. Core information is saved within the BK2 and loaded alongside it, and it's highly doubtful the movie would even sync across cores to begin with.

I'm redoing the movie now. If it still fails, at least its an improvement.
